I've almost been banded a week. Prior to surgery, my bm's were pellets. Not soon much anymore. I'm afraid to pass gas, in fear that I will shart (shit/fart). When does this go away?

LOL Sharting. That's definitely what happens! Considering a pre-op liquid diet, and a post op diet of liquids and mushies.. what goes in liquid/mushy comes out the same way. It happens every single time to me when I have to go on liquids for 2 days after a fill. So totally normal. Hang in there - It will get better as you get more solid food incorporated back into your diet. Then you can experience the flip side, Constipation. So few calories go in that aren't expended means that there's little waste to be had.

Ugh, I'm about to have an ileostomy reversal and i've been told by my surgeon : Never. Trust. A. fart. Sounds great, not. I think I'd rather have a bag.

Yours should clear up when you're eating more normally but some metamucil will also add more bulk if you can tolerate that yet. I'd ask my surgeon before taking it though, although you drink it, it might not be considered "liquids", not sure. Mine, well, I gather I'm going to be stuck with sharting for six months to two years, eeek.

Thanks! As like the gas, the sharts have now passed too. I seem to have only had a few days of the problem. However, it sounds like I may not always be able to trust a fart. :)

I had my reversal a year and a half ago and I was back to normal within a couple of weeks. I do though have issues pushing it out. (sorry about this) I think my muscles kind of lost some power while I had my bag!!! Best of luck and I am very happy for you.

Thanks Brenda, that's really encouraging to hear. I'm finding this the scariest part of the whole process, I was much less worried about the bowel resection and ileostomy creation than I am about trying to find normal again - I have no rectum anymore so who knows what its going to be like!.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
