It's my understanding that the port is stitched to your abdominal wall, so how can it flip. Is there something we do to cause it to flip? Is it more likely to happen soon after banding or months/years later. I do not want more surgery and i am curious as to how this happens. to those whose port flipped did you have an symptoms or only found out when you went to get a fill?

Did yours flip? I had never heard of this problem until Friday I went in for my first fill and they couldn't do it because it had turned. I go back this week so my doctor can do it(hopefully without problems). The nurse told me that scar tissue develops around the port and will help hold into place, since I only had my surgery on May 5th my body hasn't built up enough scar tissue yet. Kind of discouraging.. There were 4 people ahead of me at my appointment, and they got their first fills no problem.

The strain your daily activities can put on the stitches used to attach your port in place can make it flip, if things are not properly anchored. I understand there are different styles of ports, some of which have a wider base, and that are more easily anchored into place. Part of the reason for not abusing your system during the weeks right after surgery is so things can heal into place. The better healed they are, the less likely it is the port will flip.

Actually yes.. I have flipped my port twice now. I was banded last January and flipped it the first time last July. I went in yesterday (can't seem to stop throwing up) and tried to take out a bit of liquid but couldn't because I am flipped ... again. I know what I did the first time, but no idea this time. :(

I knew I did it the first time - didn't know the second time. The first time I had a lot of burning around the port area. Yes, it did require surgery to have it flipped back. It wasn't fun at all. I'm betting this time won't be so great either. I'm still unsure what I did this time - unless it was the p90x program I've been doing.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
