Feb 2 Procedure date!

Recommended Posts

Oh, man, I had NO IDEA this process would go so smoothly and efficiently! I'm going to have the lap band on Feb.2!! One minute I think about it and I'm excited, then, the next minute I'm FREAKING OUT wondering what the *((* I'm doing to myself. I only have the day before on liquids, I don't think I could do 2 weeks.

You friends who remember how it was...were you more fearful of the surgery itself or were you more apprehensive of waking up and having this "thing" inside of you? Is it weird? My sister said that when she came out of anesthesia, besides being sore, she didn't "feel" any different. She told me it's not like they're amputating a leg or something. :)

Anyhow, would love to read some experince.

Thanks,

Kelli

The surgery freaked me out more so than the actual band. I was afraid of not waking up or them having problems and all I could think about was my 4 year old.

But, the thought of her having an obese mom with deterorating health was more frightening.... so I had the surgery :)

Try to think of the positive aspects rather than the negative b/c you really don't need the stress. And besides, whens the last time you heard postive thinking is bad for the body.

Hugs and good luck !!!

Mine went more quickly than I expected, too, and I'm having surgery Jan. 24. I'm not afraid of the surgery, but I'm really nervious about the month-long liquids and the head hunger that I know I'll have to fight. But we'll both do just fine...wishing you an easy surgery and recovery!

Emily,

You too! Your surgery date is my sister's lap band 1-year anniversary. She has had no complications and is really really happy she had the surgery! :biggrin1:

Thanks y'all.

It's fun to know that there are others who have gone through/are going through/ or will go through the same things I am. Now I'm getting to the point where I just want to DO IT! LOL.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
