Just wanted to say Hi. Have an appt. with WL surgeon on the 25th of Jan. I have a lot of questions, very scared and wondering with high BMI of 64 would make my recovery time worse than someone with smaller BMI.

Health is very BAD and want to have a decent life!!!! I just do not know of any other way to do this except WLS. I have tried every diet known to man and just do not have enought will power to do on my own. I understand the band is a tool but it will help with wt. loss. I sure need everyones input and support. Thanks.

Hi I am new to and am going to get banded in March.Early Feb if I can get all the tests done. Have you had any other surgeries in the past? I have a BMI of 56 and have had my gallbladder out and have heard recovery is about the same??? I could be wrong though. I wish you well and soon hopefully we will both be banded.. Jenn:clap2:

Hi - new as well. I have been reading through a coupld of threads. I am looking into having band done. I have noticed that some are not losing weight and some talk a lot about eating all they want....kind of confused on this point. I thought the point of it all was to restrict this type of activity and am unsure why I would have the surgery if it didn't. Most seem to be losing, however. I too had the gallbladder removed, and it was fine ... I had it done on a Thursday and was at work on Monday. WLS was developed for those of us with high BMI..you'll be fine.

HI to all of you! It's like a 3 for 1 sale! The more you read, the more you'll see that the journey is very individual for each of us. I know some of us talk about being able to eat whatever we want, but I will bet you a nickel that amount post-band is NOTHING like the amount eaten pre-band. Just to give you an example, I used to eat 3 big honkin' bowls of Cereal for lunch, or Breakfast, or in the middle of the night. I have had one bowl, very small, of cereal since being banded 6 months ago. If I write about eating too much, you can be sure that the amount I am complaining about it more than half of what I used to eat. So, don't worry and don't be confused...start out on your journey, and take each development as it comes. Post your worries and questions, and see what kind of responses you get. I've found everyone supportive, and not shy about setting you straight if you're off base! Welcome to LBT! Cindy

Dear Friend - I want you to have a decent life too. The band is a wonderfult tool to help you stick with a good healthful way of eating.

Of course you have been on every diet and wgt loss program out there - we all have. It's not your fault that you cannot stick with a restricted calorie diet or you gain the wgt back. Diets don't work. Goolgle the last sentence and you will find a wealth of information as to why they don't.

I don't know how old you are - I am 49 and decided that I didn't want to miss out on life anymore. And I didn't want to loose the wgt only to live in fear of it returning - which it always did.

Banding may be slower than The Gastric Bypass - as far as loosing wgt - but it is so much safer and healthier.

If you are determined to never go on another diet again, in my opinion, you will not regret getting the lapband. The band, if used correctly and to it's maximum performance (appropriate fills) - will aid you in restricting calories, also you will not be hungry while doing so.

In many larger people - you will find that surgeons who have been an advocate of Gastric Bypass will first band their patients in order to get them to a healthier wgt before doing the bypass.

You may experience some issues that lower bmi patients do not - but your surgeon will be aware and will watch for this.

God Bless...

Patti

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
