Vomiting and not stuck

Recommended Posts

Last night I had a quick stomach bug .. started approx. 4pm was over by midnight. 1st time I have vomited since my surgery that wasn't food/band related. Severe dry heaves and nothing coming up. I asume thats because nothing was in the top portion of my pouch and it's not easy to get anything up that small opening. Very frustrating as I thought I would feel better if I could vomit but nothing. The force of dry heaves was pretty amaxing frankly. Slept the night and planned a day of bland food.. started with saltines for Breakfast enough to not take my meds on an empty stomach. Proceeded to burp saltines and Water for a while but survived. lunch I did a cottage cheese .. again burped cottage cheese for a bit but not vomiting. Around 4pm I had an instant oatmeal again, same thing. I cant say anything made me sick but reflux like for a bit after everything. I take protonix twice a day anyway for GERD. How long do I wait before I feel this is no longer a bit of a bug and not a issue with the band? And if by chance its a slipped band is it gonna hurt to wait until Tuesday when the doc is open to do something about it? I plan to call Tuesday if this conts. thru the weekend.

If you had sever dry heaving, stick to liquids and call your doctor. Your stomach will stay swollen for longer than you think. It's always better to err on the side of safety.

Stick to fluids all weekend. Don't eat solid food. All of that dry heaving has caused swelling even if you can't tell. If you start dry heaving again - provide something for your stomach to bring up - Water. So that way your stomach is pushing against something and won't strain itself.

Try to have things like popcicles and such with sugar in them so you can get calories and keep your sugar up. Soup (without chunks of anything), Jello, all the stuff you had right after surgery.

If, at any point, you can't keep fluids down or can't keep your saliva down - get to the Dr.

How are you today? Did you get an unfill?

was just a good old fashioned stomach bug I guess.. stayed soft and bland for another 48 hours and was fine. Have an appt. next week anyway and will mention it but I think all is well. Could eat the siding off a house anyway so due for a fill anyway. Started the gym 2 weeks ago and very disappointed the scale hasn't budged not even a pound. Perhaps the fill will help

If you just started at the gym take your measurements, get a trainer to do your bodynfat with calipers, keep a food journal, and don't do weights two days in a row and only exercise the same body part every three days. And if you are doing weights, lift the heaviest you can that you can only do 8-10 reps with. Less is pretty useless and more can lead to injury.

Most people start with 5-10 lbs weights but don't hesitate to carry a 20 lbs watermelon or 25 lbs armful of groceries.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
