Protein Shakes On The Go

Recommended Posts

Can Protein Shakes be made ahead of time? Any tips for making/taking them to work? I'm a school teacher and there's a fridge in the lounge. I'm just wondering if I'm going to need to haul my Ninja to school every day to blend up a few shakes. Also, what about when you're out and about town? Any good ready-made shakes?

Buy a stainless steel mug-like from Starbucks. Fill it with an icy Protein Shake and you can sip on it all day. The ice will be there when you get home.

I keep a bag of Bariatric Advantage protien powder in my desk at work and I use cold Water from the water cooler and shake it up in my GNC Blender Bottle. GNC BLENDER BOTTLE I think that works best for me since I dont like the way blenders make the powdered sakes frothy. The bottles come with a whisk ball that really mixes everything all together well. If you go this way you can still carry everything in powder form and just add water and you wont have to make anything ahead of time.

Muscle Milk also makes ready made Protein Shakes, that you just shake up. They don't even have to be refridgerated. I'd go with the Muscle Milk Light.

These days all I drink are ready-to-drink Protein shakes. Muscle Milk Light, as mentioned above, is pretty good. Lately I've preferred the Premier brand. 160 calories and 30g of Protein. They come in several flavors. I'm a chocolate lover, so prefer that flavor. I get mine at costco, but they sell them elsewhere, and you can also order from their website www.premiernutrition.com.

I also like the Premier brand Protein Bars costco also sells. They come in three flavors, and they're quite tasty. Average about 270 calories per bar, but also has 30g of protein. Half a bar is a great Meal Replacement.

EAS makes some good Protein Shakes too. You can find them at Target and I know that QT gas station keeps them stocked in all flavors. And they taste great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
