Hello. Some of you may remember me from January when I first got banded. I had alot of problems with nausea and ended up hospitalized for several days. Well, for the past 4 months, I have been doing ok. I have lost almost 40 pounds with really no effort and I hate to say it, but no exercise. I just simply ate less, ALOT less. I didn't follow the Protein recommendations or really anything about the lapband diet. Well, my eyes are opened now.

On Tuesday, while at work, I began vomiting blood. I spent the past three days at the hospital undergoing all sorts of scopes and tests. I was really worried something was wrong with my band. The diagnosis was severe gastritis- in otherwords, as my doctor put it, I have lost the entire lining of my stomach. The likely cause? Stress. And God knows I've had alot of stress. Infact, someone sent a social worker to come see me at the hospital and after I unloaded on her, she asked a Priest to come see me. She never did come back. Guess it was too much for her too.

Anyhow, my point of the story is to take care of yourself- not just count Protein or cups or whatever. But work on your mind. My stomach didn't make me fat, my mind did. This was a huge wakeup call for me to stop, slow down, and take care of myself. I hope this helps someone else out there.

Your recognition of what is most important is the first step on "taking care of self"!! I wish you the best as you continue this journey and I pray that you are receiving the medical help that you needed and deserve to get through this current challenge. But with patience, dilgence (and alot of rest) you will get better!

I agree completely.. I think I underestimated how stressful it is for some of us post surgery.. Since my surgery in Jan, my husband filed for divorce (which is a good thing). My boss started harrassing me more and more with each lb I loss..It got so bad I started vomitting at work uncontrollably.. I ended up taking leave.. and the vomitting stopped.. I started taking care of my self with my exercise, mediation and rest.. And feel soooooooooooooooooooo much better. I EVEN quit my job.. My last day is June 10 and I start a new one on June 13.... So what I am trying to say is the same as hautemama.. Being successful with this band isnt about counting the calories, and chewing chewing chewing.. it is about taking care of ALL OF YOU.. otherwise you will struggle.... I am now working with a life coach and she is amazing.. I am down 80 something lbs and 4 sizes.. Had my second fill yesterday.... LIFE is good.. But because I chose to make drastic needed changes.. Good luck to everyone.. Traci

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
