It's hard to be the cook...

Recommended Posts

Ok eveyone...I have a complaint about my hubby...he is very thin and can eat anything he wants...so it's been a challenge for me to continue to have to cook such a large volume of food every night just so that HE has enough to eat.

And what do you guys do when you just don't have the time to cook dinner? You know...you work until 5:00, you come home, you drive the kids to their games by 6:00 and by the time the game is over it's 8:00, everyone is starving, and you didn't have anything cooking in the crock pot. We usually end up ordering pizza...and remember that skinny hubby? pizza is never enough...it's TWO pizzas with tons of toppings, wings, etc. This is my life during the week and it's making it very hard for me to make the right choices.

HELP!!

My husband is a Marine, AND a GIANT PIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That man eats more than anyone I have ever met! When I cook dinner, he usually ends up making himself a second dinner. When he cooks, it is enough for the whole Marine Crops. Luckily he eats leftovers. I do a lot in the crockpot. I don't think there is anything wrong with pizza, we usually get it once a week.

My husband and son like to have pizza quite frequently too and although I choose not to eat pizza (I'm fairly certain my band could tolerate it), I have figured out a way to work around it. We have switched from ordering pizza from one of the pizza delivery places to ordering from a local Italian restaurant that also delivers. According to my husband, the pizza is very good and then I can choose to have either a salad with grilled chicken or a side order of meatballs in marinara sauce (my normal order). This works for us because they get what they want and I can have the food that is good for me...just an idea...

I cook Breakfast everyday for my "skinny" daughter-in-law who burns Water. I kind of enjoy it. I don't eat any of what I cook, but watch as she devours everything in sight. She has high matabolism and is always hungry. (She probably eat like the above Marine)! Anyway, I find now that I dont eat, much more fun. Don't know why, sometimes I don't feel like cooking for anyone and want to hide. Good luck with you. Karen

I think the key is to get a schedule going. Have a rock pot meal for 2 days a wek-that's easy! Sunday night is a good time to put everything in the pot and ready to go for the morning. Also making a dish that will serve for 2 dinners. For me this means lasagna (again this can be prepared pretty much the night before. Left overs can be frozen. It's BBQ season and that makes for quicks easy meals with little mess. Men usually like taking over the grill so that might help.

It's hard I know!! Don't be afraid to buy some prepackaged foods for some dinners too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
