question for those not telling anyone at work

Recommended Posts

I figure I'd tell who I wanted, which wasn't many! Just try to make many appts the same day. Then state you have some medical stuff going on and may need some testing done. If they ask "why" just say no-big-deal just some "girl stuff (you fill in blank)"

It's been wonderful to have a boss who tells me I'm "wasting away" on her every day and that I look great. She also has covered for me during lunch meetings where I hardly ate a thing. It's been a great decision to tell my boss and my office mate.

Puddinpie, what a blessing to have such a wonderfully supportive boss!!! We should all be so fortunate!! :clap2:

i told no one...had it done in Mexico with dr kuri. Worked thursday, was off friday for testing, saturday surgery, sunday walked around, came back home monday, back to work tuesday. didn't even tell my parents, just hubby and i knew. fast forward 3 years, only immediate family knows and 2 good friends/coworkers. that's it. weight loss has been slow but noticable over the last 3 years.

everyone thinks i look fabulous. that's all.

Ana, did you plan to do it that way? If I can avoid it, I'd prefer not to take an entire week off. I don't know if I'm clueless, naive, or just plain vain, but I don't want people putting two and two together and figuring out I had surgery during that week off I took for "vacation"

How long did the doctor tell you to take off? I have heard alot about the port site being sore. I drive alot at my job then sit behind a computer when I am in the office. I also would prefer not to take alot of time off of work but my doctor is saying 2 weeks, can I get away with less time?

pj and sleepyjean,

i have a sit down job and other than some shoulder pain from anesthesia i did not have any problems. i did not have any health problems due to my weight before surgery. i had my son by c-section 8 months earlier and lapband surgery was nothing compared to my recovering from my c-section. i was on liquids for 1 week and soft foods for 1 more week. had my first fill 4 months later, it was hard to schedule a trip to Mexico.

i planned my surgery to be a private as possible for obvious reasons. i just did not need/want people to tell me "their opinion" on why a lapband and especially on why in mexico. i was born in mexico and there are quacks in every country. i just looked for the best choice for me.

i have located a fill dr in san jose, CA. i live in the central valley and because i'm now a single mom it makes things easier for my home life to have someone closer. i chose dr kuri based on his large number of satisfied patients. dr mckeen actually thinks dr kuri is a great dr. that was all i needed to know.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
