KellyPaitRundle 0 Posted May 26, 2011 My Dr didn't give me a pre-op diet. I really thought I would have one and kinda prepared myself. I was thinking about putting myself on one, maybe for a couple of days to a week before my surgery. I know it will help with the cravings and jump start my weight loss. Any ideas or thoughts? Has anyone else done this?
Rachel412 116 Posted May 26, 2011 Hmm. I didn't have a pre-op diet and I came through it just fine. Heck, those first couple of days you're so drugged up that you don't notice any cravings anyway You can do it if you want! But I don't really think it's necessary. LVGirl 4 Posted May 26, 2011 I did it just to mentally prepare myself. I still have Herbalife shakes from the beginning of the year so I started using that. I have a shake for Breakfast and dinner and usually Soup for lunch. I will have a yogurt in between lunch and dinner. The first day I did have to eat tuna around 2:00 because I was starving, but I have been good ever since. I have lost 9 lbs since Sat just by doing this but I wanted to drop before surgery so that my liver wasn't inflamed. Good luck!

Good to know what was your diet afterwards? So far this morning I had a peach and sugar free Jello for Breakfast lunch I had a Protein Shake but I was still hungry! So I had another one, than now 2 hours later I was hungry again so I had a Protein Bar. Do you believe in the liver shrinking for these diets? I looked it up and its all about losing the fat around the liver aka losing weight before so its easier to come off afterwards. I am pretty active at work being a nanny we swim walk to the park, bicyling or playing tag running. Than I usually go to the gym once to twice a week so losing 8 pounds at least on a low fat diet should not be a problem.
Cocoabean 430 Posted May 27, 2011 I say why torture yourself? I'd hope your doctor considered YOUR medical condition and his experience in whether or not he ordered a pre-op diet. There's nothing wrong with doing one, but the two weeks I was on it were a very miserable time in my life! But my doc did say my liver was very pretty!
