To band or not to band

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about getting this sugery but I'm just not sure. I have been trying and trying to loose weight for the past few years and I think that this surgery will give me the help I need. I am in no way looking at it as an easy way out, more like a tool to change my life forever and for good. Everything I have read has seemed pretty positive, that doesn't stop me from being scared though. I just don't know. What are the problems you guys have had? What is the hardest thing about having this surgery? How much success have you had? Would you do it again? Do you tell people that you've had it?

Hi. Well I just had the Gastric Plication about 3 weeks ago and so far its been great. While getting my surgery done I met several people. One of them was a woman who had had the lap band but had had some problems and was considering the Plication. With the lap band you have to make sure your doctor knows what he or she is doing. But If i were you I'd get the Plication. Its around the same price as the lap band if not cheaper. Its basicly like the Sleeve but removable and I think you might be able to loose more with the plication. but if you really want the lap band you should go for it! I've never met anyone who's regretted getting weight loss surgery done, in fact most people wish they'd had it done earlier. So go for it!

I was banded in Australia on 13 April this year and have lost 60lb. I've lost weight in the past but it has always come back on plus a bit more. The difference this time is that I cannot eat more than a small amount at each meal and I don't feel hungry between meals.

I can exercise easily and am enjoying it. I can keep up with my husband on the dance floor and I am just loving the comments I get from family, friends and workmates.

I have just bought a selection of new clothes to get me through the next couple of months as I continue to lose weight. This time around I shopped on a very tight budget as I know they are only temporary clothes. When I reach my goal, I am going to really enjoy choosing quality clothing that shows off my new body to its best advantage.

My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago!

You're right, the band is a tool but it's working really well for me.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
