Too few Calories Post-OP! Help!!!

Recommended Posts

I was only getting 300-500 calories a day for the first 2 weeks or so, so I totally understand. I am now 7 weeks post op and I get between 800 and 1000 calories a day which seems to be okay but the weight loss sure slows down after the intial 2 weeks. There are lots of different kinds of Protein Shakes but I have found the ones that are most tolerable are ones I make myself with Protein Powder and other ingredients. My favorite is a scoop of chocolate Protein powder, 1 cup skim milk, half a banana, 1 tbsp of Peanut Butter, and 2 ice cubes bended smooth. This has gotten me through since week 3 and has about 300 calories and 40 grams of protein :)

i am also having the same issue. i was banded on the 18th, and i'm struggling. I made the mistake of going back to work too early and now i'm sore on top of weak and tired all the time!! Today I think i've gotten maybe 450 cal in and that was a struggle.

I also was banded on the 19th! Until today, the thought of eating anything made me grimace. I also drank too little. Well, today my appetite came back with a bang! I feel better and have energy & no headache! It will happen soon, just give it time! Good luck & congrats!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
