My favorite mushy meal

Recommended Posts

So, I know this isn't the food/recipes forum, but I just had to share my favorite fulfilling mushy dinner so far.

I put a can fat free refried Beans, a half a cup of salsa, about a tablespoon of cottage cheese, and a sprinkle of taco seasoning in the food processor and pureed until smooth. I then measured out a half cup of the mixture, sprinkled some shredded cheese on top and warmed it up in the microwave. I finished it off with a small dollop of sour cream. It was shockingly tasty and very filling! My husband was having a very Mexican dinner that I couldn't have, and I didn't even feel deprived! I was so pleased with myself! lol. thumbup.gif

Thank you for sharing this with me. I can't wait to get to "mushie". This will be one of the first things I try.

Thanks for sharing that! I am still waiting for insurance approval but I still like to plan ahead! I was VERY worried about "mushy stage food" really not into that texture- but this sounds good. THX

Other than the cottage cheese, it sounds like pintos and cheese from taco bell. That's always been one of my favorites!!

BTW, I love your screen name. That is so cute!

Thanks Cindy! My name reflects my figure: short and stout. wink.gif Are the pintos and cheese at Taco Bell pureed like refried Beans?

Deli- You're welcome! Do you have to stay on liquids for three weeks?

Yes, they are refried Beans with taco sauce and melted cheese. Only 180 calories and 10g Protein.< /span>

My doctor make us stay on liquids for 2-3 weeks. I am doing really good and am losing weight so I think he may advance me when I see him on Monday.

I'm not allowed Beans or salsa (but I don't like them anyway so I guess that's ok) But if you like this, you might like chicken with the taco seasoning, cheese and fat free sour cream. I'm on pureed and have been putting that in my bullet and it's delicious! Which taco seasoning do you use? I love the el paso taco seasoning!

That doesn't make sense. Beans are really high in Protein and salsa has virtually no calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
