How exciting. Just around the corner. I am so happy that I had it done. The first few weeks was painful but after you get thru it and you see results you are going to love it.

Do you have someone to help you the first few days?

Dont want to worry you but here are a few things that I had to figure out on my own. No one shared with me about this stuff.

Sonic ice was the only way I could get fluids down the first few days. And get a few boxes of GasX Strips. Keep your pain and nausia meds handy. Walk a lot when you can, it will help with the gas pains. And you will vomit a bit. Your stomach is irritated from the shock of the band being on it and from the surgery. So put a pillow against your tummy when you get sick.

Hope this helps instead of discouraging you. I was so frustrated that I did not know all of this in advance to be prepared. Email me if you need support. I am only able to check my email every other day or so, but I will be happy to listen if you need to talk.

Cindy,

You aren't discouraging, I'm happy to hear that it's not all roses and that you have advice for me!!!!

My husband took off tomorrow and my mom took of Tuesday, then I might have my sister come over Wednesday. After that, I'm not sure. I think I will send my kids to daycare this week instead of keeping them home with me, that way I can rest as much as possible. Even if I can't drive it will be ok, we live 6 houses behind the day care, so they can walk there if needed and I can walk with them.

Thanks for the tip about Sonic ice (MY FAVE!!)..... I just bought a snow cone machine yesterday and will use that and Sonic ice!!

And I have a pillow set aside for the ride home tomorrow, and will keep it handy near the bathroom just in case. I'm hoping I don't get sick, I hate to vomit!! UGH!!! But now that you've shared, I will be prepared!!

Thanks again for all your advice!!! Would love to keep in contact with you!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
