Pre op diet day 7....help!

Recommended Posts

eeeek.....I think I have been messing up. I am on day 4 of my pre-op diet and thought I could drink diet cokes. I have only had a few, but still! I think I misunderstood. HOpe this isn't going to set me back!

We weren't told "not" to have soda, we were told diet was okay, but that the carbination might upset our stomaches. I'm sure you'll be fine, but maybe switch to something else anyways.

You should be fine but my suggestion would be to go ahead and stop drinking them now since you can't drink it after surgery. Also, you will most likely have headaches due to withdrawal from the caffeine and you would much rather go through that now than when you are recovering from surgery. I haven't had a diet coke since November (when I started my pre-op diet) and I took a sip of my son's yesterday and I told my husband that I couldn't believe that I used to be so addicted to it...it actually tasted horrible!

Thank goodness I found this post! I am now on day four and yesterday I thought I was gonna throw in the towel! I felt like crap - tired, irritable and STARVING! I finally realized that maybe I was something called "HUNGRY" and made and drank my Protein drink. I felt a MILLION times better right after I drank it. I agree that we are so used to not listening to our bodies that all of this is new territory for us.

I like the idea of putting up a little note with the number of days left for the liquids only. This makes it so much more tangible and reachable.

I hope all of my co-pre bandsters find solace in this forum and know that you are not alone.

WE CAN DO THIS!!! :woot:

I had a hard time the first week of the pre-op diet too, and then it was somehow like something just fell into place, and a pattern started, and like you say, it's all about listening to your body and what it needs and wants. I also have given up coffee and diet pepsi now as well, since I figure it's good practice for afterward when I really can't have it. The other great thing I found about the pre-op diet was that I actually did really start losing, and each pound lost I felt a really great sense of pride, like "yeah, this really is the next stage!" I actually lost 25 pounds on the pre-op diet. Tomorrow I switch from full liquids to clear; and then Wednesday is the day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
