WatchNMyW8 0 Posted May 24, 2011 Hello Everyone. I just wanted to drop by and introduce myself. I got banded almost three years ago on 9/29/08. Since then I only lost about 30lbs of which I have gained back PLUS SOME. I haven't experienced any problems with my band and at times it seems like I don't even have one. I am able to eat the same things as before being banded. (With the exception of potatoes..they are they only foods that act like they want to get stuck). Right now, I am filled with about 4 or 5ccs. I got frustrated with the weight gain after being filled, so I stopped going to my doctor visits. I felt like I was wasting money on something that wasn't working. Lately, I've been thinking that I gave up too soon. Today I made up my mind to "start over" on the pre-op and post-op diets to try and trick my body into losing some of this weight. At this point, I don't know what else to do. Perhaps I just haven't had my "right fit" yet. I'll look into possibly getting an increase in my fills. If it doesn't work, then maybe I just need to have the thing removed and the gastric done. Previously I didn't qualify for it because I didn't weigh enough, but by golly I betcha I do now. Russian_BANDit_inNY 4 Posted May 24, 2011 WatchNMyW8 - Don't give up!!! I have a friend who lost nothing in the first 3 years she had a band. Then she "woke up" and she is doing great in the last 6 month. I am not a doctor, and newer to the band that you are... But I would hope you try to loos weight with the band (you already have it) before jumping into getting a bypass.
TKW 501 Posted May 24, 2011 You know, I went a year and 3 fills and thought, hmmmm I'm just going to be one of those people who can eat what ever and a larger portion and just one cup. WRONG!!! I had a fill a few weeks ago and it made all the difference in the world. Night and day, I couldn't possibly eat more than a cup of food and I have to quit when I start to feel full cuz one bite too many and it is coming back up and is very painful. It has taken me 3 weeks to learn to eat completely different than what I am used to. You have to get to the right "spot" for the band to work how it is intended. I wish you luck in your continued journey, take it slow. You Can Do It!!!!

grandy 0 Posted July 9, 2011 TKW I just noticed your post. There are so many of them; I am working my way through them. I was banded 1-1/2 years ago and have had 9 fills and NEVER felt full or that I couldn't possibly eat another bite. I have gained back more than 20 of the 60 pounds I lost in the first 6 months because my weight loss was strictly due to Myoplex lite, and high Protein low-carb., exactly like the Atkins diet I went on so many times before and lost weight on. I don't know how many cc's are in my fills and the doctor's nurse said I don't need to know. I stretched my pouch once in the first 4 months from eating too many carbs the month before, but as far as I know, it went back to normal shape with a liquid diet for one week. I have had leaks in my band, so they were using thicker fill ingredients. I wish I could have a fill that would make all the difference like you have had. One lady in my group didn't notice much until her 8th fill at the one-year mark, and another one lost 107 lbs in 7 months and felt restriction from the very beginning. She is the one I thought I would be like, but have not been that lucky. Your weight loss is wonderful; I wish I could have that success! Congratulations. Grandy Hello Grandy, Just wanted to stop by and say hello. read your post and was a bit upset that the doctor's nurse said you did not need to know how many cc went in to your band. I think with the fact that you band has leaked that there is something wrong with the band. I have never heard of thicker fill's. I think if it leaks it leaks no matter what they put in it. I wish you well and hope to hear from you soon. Stay well stay safe and good luck. Mary
