tryingtolose24 45 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi all, I used to be on phentermine before surgery to curb my appetite, and I was wondering if anyone uses it after having the surgery? I still get sooooooo hungry constantly, and I really want to go back on it. Let me know those who have / haven't used it after getting the lap band. Thank you in advance! Sagan No, I, also, took it before surgery for my 6 month diet. I lost 35 lbs before the lapband. But, I did not continue afterwards, as my surgeon only wanted me on it for 6 months. Not sure if your surgeon would recommend it for post surgery or not. Check if you think you need it. Good luck, Karen
Melissannde 41 Posted May 24, 2011 I've never used it at all, pre or post.
Psyche 1 Posted May 25, 2011 I was on phentermine for quite awhile and when talking about lapband with my pcp (presurgery) she said it would be fine to take it after surgery until I get to my sweet spot.
mauraclegg 29 Posted May 25, 2011 I used it before surgery & I am using it again now. My surgeon gave it to me last month because I stopped losing.
Crybaby 2 Posted May 25, 2011 I use it occassionally after fills when I go back on my straw diet and soft foods, just to help curb my appetitite and give me some energy!
Wheeler5051 0 Posted May 26, 2011 Just my personal expierience, I was on phentermine on and off for over 15 years! And I can tell you that it is like crack. It is REALLY hard to get off of, (not that I have ever done crack, but it's an addictive drug). Once you stop taking it, you will feel hungry like crazy and tired tired tired! I gained 45 lbs in 3 months after I stopped taking it this last time, right before my surgery actually. It messed up my metabolism and it is really bad for your heart. I won't lie, I liked having the energy from taking it, and I lost a few pounds while I was on it, but as soon as you stop taking it, watch out! I am not the kind of person who likes to tell anyone what they should and shouldn't do, but I actually got this surgery so that I could perm get off these pills and start loosing weight a healthier way. If you get back on Phentermine, it may hinder you once you stop taking them later on in your weightloss. Why not just try loosing with just the band first, I would personally give it at least 6 months before reconsidering taking it again. Just my thoughts, but good luck to you either way!
