I am 3 weeks out and a little concerned. I get pain around the port area. When I move a certain way, It really hurts. I can also feel it from the outside when push on the area on my stomach. I just hope my port didnt flip flop, I have heard that can happen. Is this normal?

Don't worry. You are still trying to heal. It's normal to be sore after 3 weeks. I had my surgery 10/12/10 and I am still careful around the port side. I remember fearing the flipping of the port. Mine is ok so don't worry.

I'm a week and a half post op and definitely still have some soreness in the port area, but only when I move a certain way or put pressure there. You're fine I'm sure. If the pain is too severe (more than a strained muscle type pain), it never hurts to ask your surgeon or bariatric team.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon!

I found that i'm moving around like an old lady scared i'm gonna bust a stitch at my port. Any suggestion how to get out of bed with less pain?>??? please help!

I had my surgery Dec. 27th...and was feeling some discomfort (not really pain) around the port area for quite a while. In April I went on vacation and lifted a heavy suitcase to get it into the overhead compartment on the plane. I thought I did something really bad....like flip it. Went to the Dr. soon after my visit and he said it was fine.... I may have just pulled a muscle and feel the soreness around the port area. I felt it for a couple of weeks. I'm fine now. had my second fill yesterday and my port if fine. I understand your concern!!

I'm sure you are OK too....but be sure to tell your Dr. at your next visit so he can check it out.

I am almost 7 weeks post op and remember thinking these same questions!!!! Just to put your mind at ease. I was a driver of a roll over accident 4 weeks post op and my port and band are fine!!! I was OK too and very lucky to have survived without injury!!!

My NP and MD said the reason why we are so sore post op and sometime 2 months post op around the port area is because the port is sewn into the muscle (some with a mesh, some without), when we move and bend. our muscles move one way and the port does or doesn't depending on the movement, which causes pain. Eventually scar tissue builds up and the pain goes away. We do have to make sure infection doesn't occur just watch out for increase redness or swelling around the port incision!

Yes it is normal. I still have some tenderness in my port at almost 5 weeks out. At 3 weeks it was still pretty sore and I still had a bruise in that area

As someone said since the port is stitched to your muscles, it might hurt for a bit. I was able to sleep on my stomach a few days after surgery but my port did hurt for a while.

I wondered if my port flipped because it used to be able to move a bit. It sat right at the top of my pants and so if my pants were too tight it would push the port around. However it was fine and any post op pain I had disappeared after a monthish.

My port has never been sore, but I think it is a pretty common problem.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞
