Swelling after being stuck with vomitting.....HMMMMM

Recommended Posts

Been banded almost a year and half. Sure I have had a few problems with vomitting, trying to learn this band like everyone else. Got my first fill in a long time about 5 days ago. It felt tight, but no big deal, liquids going down well. Tried to eat a little piece of meat this morning, chewing like I do, and BAM..stuck with a pretty violent emesis(vomit) to follow. Went to bed, woke up, and WOW..I am pretty swollen with some pretty fiece esophogus pain from vomitting..Little acid burning from vomitting I am sure...SO...Liquids are going down, but its S-L-O-W- GOING WITH SOME GURGLING....but they are doing down with consistant sipping of liquids...Can take my pills still, but liqids are the only thing that i can get down...SOLUTION>>>>>>I am going to stay on lots of liquids for 2 days or so, and see if the swelling goes down and this is just from having a fill..OR ..I thought I would wait about 4 or 5 days to see if it calms down and if not, Then I will go in....i AM NOT SOMEONE WHO RUNS TO THE DR. OR CALLS THEM FOR EVERYTHING...Nurses are their worst enemies...any thoughts fellow memebers........Thanks...onenuttynurse...:)

I think you are right on target. I would do nothing but liquids for 2 days. If it you don't feel better, call your doctor. Do you have any pain?

As long as you can stay hydrated no worries, but if you are still having problems, I'd be calling to get an unfill before this coming week is over.

Try about 3 1/2 days liquid only !, then a day of mushies, then try food. If no luck then go in.

If it's only swelling,,, it should go down.

I had a fill a few months back that did the same thing. I did a day of mostly warm liquids, next day regular liquids then mushies, and then went back to solids but focused on banding basics. What has really helped me loose weight and not get stuck is taking pencil eraser sized bites. If I can stick to that, I don't get stuck no matter what I eat. Best of luck! It is hard to remember the basics when your band has been loose for awhile.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
