Once you are healed, you will be able to eat the same amount as before you had surgery. You're in what's called "Bandster Hell". Once you get your first fill, your appetite should decrease and you won't be able to eat as much. At least that's what's happened to me ;) Everyone is different though. Some people don't feel any different after the first fill and it takes a few fills to feel satisfied when you eat a smaller portion.

Right now, it's all about willpower and making the right choices, and not eating until you are stuffed. You would have to overeat to the point of pain for months in order to stretch out your pouch, so no worries there. Always eat your protien first, don't "drink" your calories (soda, Starbucks, etc) and measure your portions so you know how much is enough.

You'll get there!

I read that if you are eating until you are stuffed then you can stretch the pouch. Try eating and stopping just before that stuffed feeling and instead of your brain being the indicator of whether you feel full -you should measure your food and stop when it's gone. Proteins fill you up-definitely get them in!

You should be measuring, and weighing your food, and recording your calories, either on paper or myfitnesspal.com is free, and I see a lot of people belong there including me. I stay between 800-1200 calories a day, and 60-80G of Protein a day. If you do this, and practice putting the fork down while you are chewing, and Waite about 30 seconds until you take another small bite, and chew, chew, chew. You won't have to worry about stretching your pouch. That comes from stuffing yourself to much, and that's not what this band is all about.

So until you get filled,,,, you might as well practice the wright way of doing this. Otherwise if your eating habits are poor, you are going to be stuck, and learning will be a little harder with a fill. This way if you make a small mistake, you won't be stuck.

This is up to you, but it is a good thought.

Shirley.

WOW I was banded same day as you and I was wondering the same exact thing! I scared myself this past weekend when I was able to eat a slice of pizza (I know bad choice but life gets in the way sometimes!) and STILL felt hungry...I went and ate another slice and then literally got up and walked out of the restaurant until my family was finished because I was so scared of sitting there and eating another slice. I got very emotional over this -- my husband was very worried about my reaction -- I kept saying, "Why don't I feel full?! Did I stretch out my pouch?!" I was a wreck!!

So now I will forgive myself and move on and work on my willpower!

I am sooooo glad that I have found this website!! There is always someone who gives me good advice and sets my mind at ease.

We can do this!!! Good luck to you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
