Anybody's PMS get worse after banding?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it's just my imagination, but it seems like my PMS has gotten a lot worse since I was banded two months ago. I have been taking birth control for years so that has controlled my symptoms, but after the surgery even with BC I'm having cramps, terrible chocolate cravings, and I'm even breaking out! This has not happened to me in forever...I feel like a teenager again! I also notice my flow is a lot longer and heavier than it used to be, and I had breakthrough bleeding for the first time ever (my gyno chalked it up to the antibiotics and stress of surgery, but it was still weird).

Any other ladies notice this? Why would the band have this effect?

Unforunately, your horomones are also changing with the weight lost. So, this can cause a lot of problems.. Just pray that you don't end up with bladder infection and yeast infection because of it too.. This can be caused from losing weight.

I am absolutely dealing with this also. I don't tend to be a very emotional person so I'm not used to it! I have broken out a bit, I'm craving chocolate which I never do and just generally not feeling like myself. It's actualy worked to my advantage twice now. I tend to be very nice and a beat around the bush kind of person but not so much lately. I emailed my boss asking for a raise a week ago and this weekend, I saw a ring I liked at Sears and told my hubby he was buying it for me. This is not normal behavior for me, but I am kind of liking it. lol

I would say definitely. I actually had those insane chocolate cravings today. Start of PMS + stressful day at work. Not a good combo. I hit my stash of mini oreos. I always make sure to stick to the portion size and it definitely did the trick. Today at least, lol. But I definitely notice that I'm a lot moodier, more cramps and breaking out again."sigh"

Well my periods are'nt "timely" anymore. I used to be very regular. In high school I was every 28 days AND started at 10:20 AM.

While in adulthood I was not that regular I never used to be like this. After having a bloodclot and being on bloodthinners and then having WLS I a mess. I've averaging 25 days and then this month 30. If it's the weekend I give in and take naps in the afternoon because I am exausted and have terrible cramps.

Me too! Hadn't had a period for nine months pre-surgery, actually thought I was menopausal then got one a week after surgery and now every three weeks since. Hubby and son have learnt the signs and learnt to duck (metaphorically.) I am trying to pick up the signs early in myself so that I can not take it out on them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
