Just starting out

So at 280 pounds still and 8 months post op I have just joined a gym. I bought myself a pair on non $6 Walmart sneakers (who knew sneakers had arches) and loaded up my little ipod. I have gone 4 nights this week after work doing 1 mile walking at a 2.4 speeed on the treadmil and 1/2 mi. on the recumbant bike or vise versa, and surprisingly I dont hate it. I didn't want to eat dinner then go but was also scared of having a blood sugar issue (happened at Water aerobics twice) since lunch is usually a salad at 1pm and gym is about 6-7p. 2 nights I tried a greek yogurt at 4pm and that worked fine as did having 4-5 bites of supper and reheating the rest when I get home. I tried about 3 minutes on the eliptical last night just for fun .. wow does that take a little coordination which I'm not sure is my area of expertise.. kind of an akward feeling, but didn't rule it out completely. I hope to start a few of the weight machines next week as well as a mile on each which I think is pretty do able .. Any tips on how I can get the most bang for my buck at the gym?

I am thinking about Water aerobics...how did you like them?

First off good for you for joining a gym and somewhat enjoying it!! I would advise working with a trainer at least once to get a routine. Usually they give you a trainer at no charge when you first start to show you how to work on the machines. Use that perk if available.

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
