Diet pills

Recommended Posts

Hello my LBT buddies!

Question, I am in the six month supervised diet stage before I can submit my claim to my ins and was wondering if any of you were perscribed weight loss pills while in your supervised diet stage? I go to my pcp on monday and I am gonna suggest that he perscribe something to help me lose a couple of pounds. Can you tell me the names of some of the perscription weight loss that are available.

Thanks for your help!

Kee

I just sat in my doc's office bawling my eyes out the other day because I can't control my binge eating around my PMS cycle. I got nuts, and it destroys all the work I did prior to that. I work my ass off to lose 3 pounds, then gain it back in 2 nights of binge eating.

I asked for a diet pill that I can take during the 5 worst days of the month, but she wouldn't give me a prescription due to my blood pressure (diet pills can dangerously increase blood pressure.) She recommended over-the-counter Hydroxy Cut, which is ephedra free. She said to mark my calendar (since my cycle is so regular) and take right before PMS kicks in for 3-5 days.

I just went to the drug store this morn - they were out of Hydroxy Cut but they had some generic brand called Hydroxy Less that advertises "same as Cut but cheaper."

Let's see how I do.

I was on Adipex a couple of years ago, there is also meridan, and a couple other's i don't remember the name. I have a problem with prescribed diet pills because they make me feel like I am crawling out of my skin, but thats' just me. Good luck!!!

Be careful with some of the prescribed diet pills....(such as Xenical)....they can produce not-so-pleasant side effects.

Phentermine. I have taken a half a pill 3 times since banding. (as well as pre-banding) and it really speeds up the metabolism and reduces the appetite. It does make me "wiggy" though. I can't take it for more than 2 days in a row. It feels wierd. I wouldn't make a good drug addict, well, except with food as my Drug! I was also prescribed Bontril but it didn't work as well. Good luck! Keep an eye on that blood pressure, and document document document with your doctors' office.

Bontril made me go way too fast, and it raised my blood pressure.

We got people walking on the moon and doctors changing women into men. But science can't come up with a diet pill. Many obese people have associated high blood pressure, but diet pills cause high blood pressure. Go figure.

This Hydroxy pill says "take 3 pills 1/2-1 hour before meals. I'm afraid to take 3, so I just took one. Let's see if today's itty bitty meal will fill me up better. I'm starving!

adipex/phentermine = speed. This med made my skin crawl... you know, the goosebumps! Its the most effective for weightloss, but has the most wiggy side affect.

I like tenuate.

Not nearly the "wiggy" feeling as adipex. And it comes in a oblong tablet that you can easily break in half - for those days when you only need a half.

I like diet pills.

Actually I need a few to kick start the weightloss again.

My question to you Kee, is what happens if you take the diet pills on the required "diet plan" - and you lose so much that you no longer qualify for the insurance to pay for wls?

DeLarla,

when metobolife was popular, I used it. I took all of the first bottle then second time around I bought the Walmart version of it... "metobolift" I think. Something was different, I mean the chemical structure in it.

It made me mean. I talking about #1 bitch kind of mean. It must have been bad, cause I could tell how mean I was.

My cousin had the same experience with it as well.

Just telling you this for you to use caution with the generic version. Sometimes it pays to buy the real thing, or wait ill they get the real thing in. So if you dont have success with the generic, give the real one a try before ditching the whole thing. :)

Thank you ladies for all your suggestions and advice. I want my pcp to perscribe something, cuz I want my notes to show that I've made some effort. I've been working out the past couple of weeks like crazy, but I just keep stuffing my mouth, even when I say I'm not gonna do it. So, I could lose around 15-20 before I become under 40 bmi. I would love to at least see the scale going the other way before surgery, even if its only 5lbs :faint: Hopefully, the diet pill will help, but ultimately, I need to try to control my binge eating. The root of all my problems :angry

I've taken enough of all those diet pills in my lifetime I should be trying to put weight on, LOL. I took xenical, and all it did was make me regular for once in my life. The only thing diet pills ever did for me was make me "maintain" the current weight I was at.

I did see on television the other night there are suppose to be several new pills hit the market this year????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
