11 days out and not happy with scale :0(

Recommended Posts

I was banded on May 9th and as of now have lost 8 pds - and I'm not too happy with that number - I feel like I should have lost 10 plus - i mean I'm only on liquids for God sakes! Lol :0/

I'm probably obsessing over nothing - I Know I should be happy about the 8 pds but I'm scared that if it's not melting off now - it will slow down even more when on solids.

Sorry - don't wanna soundlike a brat- just wanted to vent !

First 6 weeks are about healing. Stay off the scale; you're not going to drop lbs like that. You didn't get fat overnight, did you? The average loss with the band is 1-2lbs a week; you're ahead of the curve.

I know it feels like you should have lost more, but 8 pounds in 11 days is great! That is a rate of more than 4 pounds a week. I agree with the above post, try and stay off the scale for now. When I was loosing I weighed in once a week and recorded it. You don't want to be discouraged by the scale. If you are doing the right things, the scale will eventually show it. Congrats on your surgery!

Its hard. Im going on my 6th week and am just again starting to loss weight. Its like a 3 to 4 weeks of being stagnant. Very frustrating, but stick with it and it will start again. If you read the posts, most everyone has done it. Keep up the good work.

Im so glad I signed up for this Forum.. My surgery was May 10th. and so far I have lost 14.5 pounds since I started my liquid program - 2 weeks prior to surgery and now 11 days post.. I was kinda dissappointed as well about the weight loss.. I figured I would be at least 20 pounds down..... but this discussion has helped. I am also actually surprised at how easily wiped out I get when I do any physical activity.. everday it gets better, but I am still easily tired even walking around the grocery store picking up a few items that we need. I wish you much luck!!! We will get to our goal!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
