OK first of all right now I feel like such a fool, so embarassed and jus t so outraged ...seriously. So I was banded on May 12th and things have been going great except at times I have hungar headaches, which for me causes me to be physically weak. So I decided well why not just do appetite suppressants until I get my first fill. Well I had my appointment at 10:30am this morning to be told at 10:45am that the clinic is for people that want to lose 25-30 pounds, it's more a natural-homeopathic thing, the medical assistant (not even the doctor) said that the doctor was thinking of me and did not want me to spend tons of money. He recommeded I use a biatric diet. Basiclly they were saying I was too FAT :( to be seen at a weightloss clinic. The medical assistant was like "don't think we are trying to send you away becasue we would love to help you feel so ASHAMED right now. I just needed to vent ....maybe I should have told them I hve the lapband...I don't know.

I know some of you guys are puzzled about the appetite suppresants...but it is my choice please don't leave any comments that are mean I already feel like shit :(

Honey, eat when you are hungry. The first 4-6 weeks is about healing and it truly is. What you are going through called bandster hell is horrible and can make you feel like it was not worth it. When you eat just try to eat well and drink plenty of Water. Make sure you are getting your Protein in too. You can also practice your eat slow / chew well technique. Trust me, you don't want to have to learn it when you have restriction. Trial by fire is not fun with PBing, Sliming, etc.

Don't worry what other people think about you now. Just think positive and in a few months, you'll show those folks! :P

If it were me I would happy not to have become involved with people who obviously have no understanding of someone who has more than the average amount of weight to lose.

The first month is about healing. Let that be your mantra and just make good choices...... you will be fine

I'm sorry. Keep in mind that you will be losing soon and it will be staying off too! Juliat is right you are healing. You have take care of the physical hunger and learn to bear the mental stuff. Frankly diet pudding and sugar free Popsicles helped me. Restriction is coming, just work on not gaining.

FYI, when I said I'm sorry, I meant it as I'm sorry that you felt so bad. It's pretty crappy how devalued we start to feel. As big people. I've often felt my opinions were discounted because of my weight. Or I wasn't wanted.

I think everyone cheats when they are super hungry. I know that when I give in and eat something that I shouldnt, I feel terrible afterwards. I have been thinking about diet pills from a weight loss clinic as well. I have not lost anything in over a month and I have been eating well and working out everyday. It gets to the point where it is plain depressing. And my husband will tell me that I look great but we did not pay for the band for me to only lose half of my weight. I feel like I need to work harder but I dont know what else I could do besides simply starve.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
