A post-op poll to help the newbies

Recommended Posts

I know that a lot of recently banded people post freaking out because they haven't lost weight since surgery, or have even gained some. I thought maybe a poll of all of would show them that all sorts of different results are normal in that first month, so they don't feel as discouraged and alone!

I lost 15 lbs in the 3 weeks before surgery. By the first month after I had lost another 24. The second month I only lost 6. After that I averaged about 8 lbs a month for about a year then it really slowed down. Only about 30 lbs in the past 2 years.

I lost exactly 10 lbs in the month after surgery. I lost 12 lbs on my preop diet. I have lost 26 lbs since my surgery date - 2.5 months out. Lots of inches though. I think I'm going to be a "slow loser", but I'm ok with that, slow is better than I was doing on my own.

I think I lost about 12 lbs in the month after surgery with the majority being during the 2 week liquid post op period (I had absolutely no appetitie) but I did stall for about 2 weeks when I started on mushies (which is VERY common).

Well I did not have a pre-op diet at all. So I had a lot of last meals. But the week after surgery I lost 17 pounds (which I know was a lot of Water weight) the 2nd week I lost 3 pounds and this last week which was my 3rd week I lost 3 pounds. I weigh myself once a week but I am always afraid to get on the scale because I am so afraid of a plus number instead of a minus number. I get my first fill on June 2nd. Can't wait. This never feeling full business is for the birds.

Seven weeks post-op averaging since surgery 2 pounds a week, and inches ! To me that is not as fast as I want, considering I lost 26 pounds in the months of January to March .

Well, I had lost 15 pounds on my pre-op diet. I was 283 on 12/13 my surgery day. Then I was 275 on 1/4, then 1/13 I was 272. Obviously you will lose some weight because you aren't eating anything. But your body is still healing. Obviously it stall a little bit when you go back on real food. Your body is all messed up.

I think in my mind I just expected this massive weight loss. So I was like oh.. 2lbs .... yay. i guess haha.

Great idea! Well for pre op diet, I only lost about 5 lbs. After surgery, I lost about 17 lbs, but once i started eating solids, my weight came to a stop. I understand why because I am eating and that's fine with me. I'm hoping to start losing again, but I understand that this is healing month for me..

Wow I'm so glad to hear these comments from everyone! I had my surgery on 4/26/11. I lost 9 lbs. the first week and 4 lbs. since then. I was also expecting bigger numbers and was a little disappointed...but my dr is happy and reminded me that 2 lbs and week for 1 year will be 100 pounds :)

I'm so glad I found this forum! You all give me hope!!

Love that pool. Im actually pretty sad, i lost 50 pre op, in 6 months, then 17 the first 2 weeks post op, and now nothing for the past 2 weeks. I know it seems to be normal, but im still very sad that the scale has stopped moving. Im getting really scared that it will just stall for ever! Oh do i hate not knowing. I have never stopped loosing, for the past 7 months, i find it soooo scary.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
