Hey Everyone~

I had my surgery in March 2010. I'm at a stand still with losing weight. I need to make an appt with my surgeon, but I'm frustrated with how well I'm NOT doing. (I know that's backwards, but that's how I'm feeling.) Anyway, my hair is starting to come out like CRAZY! I can't stop crying about it, and I have no idea what to do. I was taking mega doses of Biotin, but I cut back because I was growing facial hair. I made an appt with my PCP, but I can't get in until June 6. I don't know if I'll have any hair left by then. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!!

Biotin is not the only deficiency which may result in Hair loss. You may be Iron deficient or deficient in another mineral. You might benefit from increased consumption of iodine. But I don't think you should be self-treating without a medical practitioner first isolating and identifying the cause of your hair-loss. You need to get your blood tested. You may be experiencing other deficiency symptoms that you haven't recognized. Your hair loss may also be genetic. Did your parents or grandparents experience early hair loss? How much Protein are you consuming? Both insufficient and extremely excessive Protein consumption can result in hair loss. You're not losing weight and you're losing hair, which leads me to think it may be insufficient protein. I doubt that you're consuming enough carbs to result in hair loss and maintain your weight. Anyhow, June 6th really isn't that long from now. I'm sure you won't be bald by then. You can't rely on anyone other than your doctor to find a proper diagnosis and treatment for you.

May not be able to do anything until it tapers off on it's on. Are you sure you're eating enough Protein? and taking Vitamins?

I went to a dermatologist because I was loosing my hair. He assured me I wouldn't go bald. He said your body goes into a kind of shock after rapid weight loss. Mine started about 6 months post op and lasted about 4 months. I was lucky to start out with a thick head of hair. If your worried, I would see a dermatologist, they know much more about stuff like this than PCP. Good luck!

I do know that you can lose hair for several reason. 1. stress 2. Vitamins defiency 3. not enough Protein just to name a new.

Ive been doing hair for 20 years...I just got banded on the 6th and anasteshia is the worst mine is breaking...there is an amazing Shampoo called Nioxin it helps with breakage and falling out its 3 steps shampoo conditioner an a scalp treatment..it will slow it down..keratin treatments are also a good idea along with 4-6 week trims...add Knox Gelatin to warm tea helps strengthen nails and hair

Why don't we get hot pink long wigs and leather jackets with the name Hot Pink b*****s on the back. We need more members to our motorcycle gang.

I gave up on my thin and sparse hair. Much of mine is post menopausal Hair loss. I would have suffered hot flashes in place if hair loss. Especially as my (remaining) hair is silver. So I got me some good wigs, and a good clip on hair piece.

Now I can wear kanzashi in mr wigs, and combs, etc that I could not wear in my own hair. I look much younger and less pale. Yay me.

The change of seasons (like now) can also spur Hair loss

I have hair loss now and i'm not too worried (but i started taking 4000 mcg of Biotin b/c in my head it makes me feel like i'm doing something about it)

I had all the coloring cut off recently. Turns out I am platinum blonde! So I am going to let it grow put a few inches. Sort of Judy Dench. My wigs will still be fine for dressy.

But the new do looks really good on me. Yay.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
