Anyone have gallstones with weightloss with no symptoms or problems??

Recommended Posts

Hello, just want to see if there is anyone out there that has gallstones or knows of someone that has reached their weight loss successfully with no complications with their stones?? I am scared to death of having an attack, which I never have...but i'm just worried. Im curious if this effects everyone with the LapBand and gallstones, or only a sm percentage of people. Your input would be greatly appreciated!!

I didn't have any symptoms or problems, or so I thought. I ended up with it being removed on 4/20 because I had a gallstone that measured over 3 cms. It was the best thing I could have done, and I'm now glad I did it. The heal time from that surgery was much easier because I didn't have an infection or any symptoms of a gallbladder attack. I was up and moving and feeling good in less than a week.

ETA - After having it out now, I can tell that I was having issues. What I was chalkiing up to being my lap-band being a nuisance was actually my gallbladder acting up. I couldn't eat or drink anything (including water) without having some chest pain.

I have some very tiny gallstones and only very rarely have pain. Last time was July 4, 2010.. almost a year ago. As long as I don't eat extremely fatty foods I'm good to go.

My surgeon would like to take my gall bladder out, but my insurance sucks.. making me basically self-pay and I don't have 20K lying around.

Gallstones are more prevalent in those that lose weight rapidly. And there's a medication you can take to help prevent gallstone formation. Ask your doc about it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
