savdbyegrace 0 Posted May 19, 2011 did you drink caffeine on pre op diet?
vickyd 24 Posted May 20, 2011 No...and I rarely drink it now. I had a lot of headaches during pre-op while my body was withdrawing from it and I really don't miss it.
Toast4U 6 Posted May 20, 2011 Gotta confess....I drank coffee during my pre-op diet and I'm drinking coffee now (I'm two weeks post-op). The nurse gave me a cup of coffee while I was in recovery (I went home several hours after surgery). However, I went from drinking 6-8 cups per day down to 1-2 cups per day. My coffee is the only "cheat" I've allowed myself. I drink plenty of other fluids as well.
NJGirl32 43 Posted May 20, 2011 My nutritionist said no-not even decaf! I can't understand why I can't even have Decaf? ? It hasn't been too bad so far!
honk 780 Posted May 20, 2011 My doctor is fine with coffee even regular as long as there is no suger or cream involved. Doctor never said a word about diet soda either (note I have not had carbonation since surgery.)
Rachel412 116 Posted May 20, 2011 I didn't have a pre-op diet but my nutritionist says coffee is a no-no so I quit drinking it a day or two before surgery. I had the withdrawal headache along with the dehydration headache when I went into surgery re: Decaf, my nutritionist said they don't recommend it either because the issue isn't the caffeine so much as the acids in coffee.< /p>
kll724 3,055 Posted May 20, 2011 I don't remember if I drank it pre-op. I didn't get it in the hospital, tho' But I, also, drink it at home. I use a little skim in it. I drink regular coffee, 1 or 2 in the am. I can't give it up; it gets me through the day. My bad! Karen
Dave_NW 92 Posted May 20, 2011 I'm still amazed at how many different ways there are to approach banding. For every "Yes" you'll probably see a "No" comment, as well. My NUT didn't say anything about caffeine, one way or another. I used to drink a lot of coffee daily, but now only drink a cup or two in the morning. I drink caffeinated iced tea periodically at other times, and have not had any negative reaction. My NUT knows I drink those things, and has never said not to. I don't drink carbonated beverages, so have no reference to that, but a coworker who is banded drinks soft drinks all the time. Go figure... Dave
Lady_Dragyn 2 Posted May 20, 2011 My NUT and doc's office said not to coffee due to the acids and that only Decaf tea. Once the healing is done and things have calmed/progressed, it's ok to have "watered" down coffee (to cut the acidity per my NUT). By watered down she said mix with skim milk to make it a light brown color and use an artificial sweetner if necessary. I am about 2.5 weeks out and allow myself 1 or 2 cups a week. I never had an addiction to caffiene (never had headaches when I didn't drink it or when I gave it up 2 months before surgery) I just truly enjoy the taste of coffee
sandy1 1 Posted May 21, 2011 Yes I did! I was never told to give it up. After surgery coffee did not taste good the first week. But now it tastes fine!

JimCAnder 0 Posted May 21, 2011 Ended up getting admitted after my op due to a minor complication. Asked my Dr. as she was in the room covering the reasons why I had to be admitted if I could have coffee. She dialed the request line herself and ordered it for me so there was no problem. TKW 501 Posted May 21, 2011 Every Dr is different. I was told no coffee because it is a diuretic. I have asked about it since and have been told if i drink enough fluids in a day coffee is fine. My nut. said for every cup of regular coffee i need to drink an additional 16 oz. of Water. Who knows.....???

~*sarah*~ 0 Posted May 23, 2011 Funny, I was told absolutely NO caffeine for something like 3 months post-op. I don't drink coffee but I love iced tea and pop so I gave that up a few weeks before my surgery. I figured I didn't want caffeine withdrawl along with all the other discomfort from the surgery!
