My surgery is tomorrow and...

Recommended Posts

Something is freaking me out! I never asked the surgeon this question and I will definitely ask him in the morning...Am I going to be catheterized? I know it may seem like a trivial detail of surgery, but it's really got me freaked out! lol. It has always been one of my biggest fears.

How many of you were catheterized for surgery? If you were cathed, did they do it while you were awake or after you were asleep?

I was, but you can always tell them that you don't want to be.

i would have never known if the nurse hadn't told me afterward. they did it during surgery, so i didn't feel anything and i didn't feel anything afterward either. the thing that freaked me out more was being intubated.

First off ...CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your big day is almost here!! All the researching and wondering and questioning has led up to this moment!! Make sure to give us a full report!! :)

Secondly I am sure you'll be knocked out if they do that!! Don't worry about it. This time tomorrow it will be done and you'll be on the road to recovery!

Not that I know of...if it did happen then I wasn't aware of it.

I wasn't. My worst experience was starting my period the morning of surgery (of course!). They required me to remove my tampon and shove a pad between my legs with nothing holding it there but my thighs. Ugh!!!!!! dry.gif

my surgery will be next month - but i was cath'd for my C-section - and never even knew it - and I was awake (but completely numb) for that one. I was so grateful for it after the surgery - couldn't get up and never had to pee - it was great. No pain at all - in or out.

My surgeon just called to check in with me (perfect timing) and I asked him! He said I won't be catheterized!! YAAAY!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
