Man, am I bummed!

lljpaisley, be encouraged! 46 pounds is a HUGE weghtloss! It is coming off slowly and beautifully. :clap2: Go 'head on, girl. Work your mojo!

I work with a young woman who had a bypass a year and a half ago. People do have the bypass with little ill-effects but she hasn't been so lucky. She has had so many complications that she has spent more time at home ill and in the hospital than she has at work. Kidney stones every few months, major adhesion problems, 7 more surgeries, she has to take a medicine EVERY time she eats so that it won't hurt! She can't even enjoy her food now. Oh, she's thin, alright...frighteningly so...she's malnourished. Unfortunately, food has now become her enemy. She's such a sweet girl and I feel awful for her.

If you ask her if she would do it all again...she would say "yes: because it saved her life. She didn't chose the LapBand option because she felt the weightloss was too slow. Now, I suspect she wishes she had taken that option. She's only 26 and I don't know WHAT she's going to do when she decides to get pregnant.

You made a wonderful choice that, in the long run, will be much better for you and for your health.

I felt this way before, but now that Ive read this post I want to post ads all over the country begging people not to have the bypass surgery. As I have posted before, the US is the last country in the world that still does the bypass because it is just too dangerous and the statistics are showing that bypass patients gain the weight back after a couple of years. Banders dont. What's really, really sad is that the bypassers have bypassed the opportunity and cant change their minds and get the band. They will live with what they have. God I feel so bad for them. *sighs*

Don't be bummed, you will be healthier in the long run. We must not only think about how fast the weight is lost, but of nutrition and going easy on our bodies (it's been through enough!) Just remember the malnourishment issues they have.

Alos, my doctor said a lot of bypass people gain their weight back!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
