Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I dont know about you but since I've been banded (8 days ago) , Ive been stepping on the scale daily.

I know its not good to do, but I cant help it !! LOL

Am I crazy ?? I dont wanna get hung up on the number instead of the overall success !!

I would say don't do it, it can be very frustrating when the scale isn't moving. I'm speaking from experience, be patient.

I weigh myself daily, and use it as a barometer for how I'm doing. I correlate the food/calories I ate the day or two before with what the scale reflects today. If things stop moving, I examine what I've been eating, or how much exercise and activity I've had. Over time I've gotten to know my metabolism pretty well.

Plateaus have happened, and I've kept weighing, just to monitor how the plateau is going. If my eating and exercise are proper, I know it's just my body readjusting itself, and that the scale will start moving again soon. And sure enough, it does.

So no, I don't think weighing daily is a bad thing, as long as you don't let it get you down if things don't move as quickly as you want them to. Especially for a new bandster. After the Water weight goes away, and you get back onto solid foods, your weight loss will slow way down. Don't get frustrated if things don't move as quickly as you'd like.

I weigh daily too. My husband tells me not to but I can't help it biggrin.gif Generally though, since I know it changed day to day, I count the losses but not the "gains". So if I'm up 2 pounds from the day before, I go "huh" and keep working at it and eventually it comes off again.

I don't think there is anything wrong with weighing daily as long as you don't get too crazy about the daily fluctuations. I do weigh daily and use it as a barometer to keep me on track.

I was/did until I realized that the scale was the last and poorest way to measure my success. I now only weigh myself every Sunday. I focus on all the inches I've lost, the tone I see in my body and the fact that I'm wearing size 2s. Soon enough I'll be monitoring to scale to go UP; so maybe then I will weigh each day; who knows.

I have to admit, I weigh almost daily also. I use it both as a barometer of how I am doing AND hoping to see a loss. Unfortunately, I am pretty discouraged right now. I was banded on 3/10/11 and initially lost 9lbs however, when I went onto solid foods I gained back 4lbs. I am trying to watch what I eat but have NO restriction at all. I can eat anything. I have not had a fill yet. When I had my last appointment 6 weeks ago the doctor said it was too soon for a fill. I go back on 5/24/11. Hopefully he will give me a fill. My hope is that once I get filled, I will start seeing progress again. Has anyone gone through this?

Guilty as charged  , I weigh myself each morning. I admit that it was hard on me after I started on solids because the numbers were no longer going down daily. I now understand the fluctuations and expect them.

While I was loosing I only weighed in once a week, and recorded it. Now that I am maintaining, I weigh myself every day, keeping within a 2 pound range, if I go above that I know it's time to make an adjustment. Just what works for me. Recently I have been struggleing with a 5 pound gain, the daily flucuations have driven me crazy. However, I know if I keep doing the right things the damn scale will move. I finally lost a pound after about a 4 day stall. I have toyed with the idea of stopping the daily weigh ins, especially when I have a few pounds to loose, but I just can't help it. I have become a scale whore! lol

Since my surgery 9 days ago I've weighed myself daily, written it down, and even charted it in an app. I don't feel obsessed at all. I mean two minutes on the scale and thinking about my weight, rather than all the hours I used to spend eating a day. I'm sure it'll pass that I weigh in daily, but I'm bored!!! LOL! So I'm reading that the scale might stall when I go on solids, that's kind of worrisome, since I only lost 4 pounds since surgery. I lost 13 if you count the 9 I gained in the hospital. (gained 9 from my initial weigh in to my release weigh in) I will probably switch it to weighty weekly soon, it's not fun stepping on the scale daily unless it's moving

I weigh in the morning. Every morning!

I weigh myself before bed.... most of the time.

I do the calculations of where I will be the next morning as I am falling asleep!

I obviously am obsessed. And I also know the experts say to weigh once a week but here is my theroy...

I spent the majority of my life not looking at a scale. Where did that get me? ;)

AMEN!

I, too, weigh myself daily and use it as a barometer for my goals. But do whatever works for you. AND REMEMBER... the lapband is a tool not a magic fix. Like all good construction projects, it takes time to get it right!

Good luck everyone!

I stopped weighing myself at home because I was weighing daily and it effected my whole day. Now I weigh in every monday morning before my work out at curves. Gives me something to look forward too! You have to do what you are comfortable with. When I get to goal I will probably switch back to home and daily, but right now this is the best for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
