krystina1216 0 Posted May 17, 2011 I am on the road to being banded and had a few questions. How was the recovery? How many days did you miss from work? Were you really sore? I'm trying to figure out what I have to look forward to... I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life.
mattie7632 24 Posted May 17, 2011 You will most likely be pretty sore and for myself and the people that I've known who are banded, they took about a week off work. I myself was too sore to drive for that 1st week due to the sitting position. Of course, if you do anything that involves physical labor, that is different and you should ask your doc

That helps... I wasn't sure how long I would need to request off- thinking ahead, I know- But I'm a planner =]
CheckYes 46 Posted May 17, 2011 I was not in much pain at all after surgery. I was, however, REALLY tired from the lack of calories and just recovering in general. I probably had to nap every day for the first two weeks. If I had been working it would have been really difficult.
vlp1968 83 Posted May 17, 2011 For me, recovery was easy. I didn't even have the gas many talk about. I am lucky in that I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I did take the pain meds for 2-3 days, I figured why be uncomfortable. Everyone is different. A week off sounds about right, just in case. If you have a very physical job you may need even longer. If that is the case, I would talk to your surgeon about it. He/she may want to see you and give you clearance to go back to work. Congrats on your impending surgery! You will do great. Auroraishere 1 Posted May 17, 2011 I am one week out and I am feeling good. No pain meds anymore, I am moving around, but if do too much like shopping or something I'll get weak. I see the doc Thurs, and I'm actually hoping for at least another full week off.
nallygirl 4 Posted May 17, 2011 My recovery was pretty easy. I had my surgery on a Wednesday morning and was home by 4:30pm where I slept til the next day. I was very sore around my port site but other than that it wasn't too bad. I think I only used the pain meds for the first two days. By the third day I was out shopping with a friend and was back to work on Monday morning. I have a desk job though with not a lot of movement so it wasn't too bad. Other than pain what I really noticed was how tired I was. Probably could have used another day or two off work! Good luck with your surgery!!
Beachy_Babs 5 Posted May 17, 2011 I am on the road to being banded and had a few questions. How was the recovery? How many days did you miss from work? Were you really sore? I'm trying to figure out what I have to look forward to... I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life. The day after surgery was the worst for me. I was in pain, was looking forward to taking the liquid pain meds every four hours. I could walk around (which helps tremendously), but as far as getting out of bed or getting up, I needed assistance from my husband. I don't know about others, but I had the full package of chest pains, sore neck, short of breath, and gas pains. All of them went away about a week post op. I didn't eat or drink very much at all. All I did was took my meds and slept all day. I hibernated for a good few days and it felt great. I'm a stay-at-home mom so there was no work to be missed. I was very sore the first two days, but that too, went away. I am about 2 1/2 weeks post op and running around doing everything I used to do. I was at 24 hour fitness today on the elliptical and burned 200 calories. Life is grand after the band...no pain no gain!! You'll be fine sweetie
Aleata 0 Posted May 17, 2011 I had my surgery on 5/12 and had very little pain afterwards. I did walk every chance I got. The hardest part was the gas in my left shoulder. It seem to come out on it's own now. I use the pain meds for the day after and part of Saturday. I returned to work Monday for about 5 hours and today for a full day. I really feel good and I'm even cooking for my family tonight. Everyone is different. I will say that I had a pretty strong core prior to surgery.
Toast4U 6 Posted May 18, 2011 I have to agree with the other posts. I had my surgery on Tuesday, 05/03. I took the rest of the week off from work and went back to work on the following Monday. I have a desk job as well. The first two days I felt pretty lousy but on the third day I turned a corner and never looked back! I still have some soreness around my port site, but otherwise feeling great. I'm still on full liquids. I've eaten a few mushy food items, but I'm too nervous to try anything else until my doc gives me the OK. I am so happy to have my band! You will do great! dsb 0 Posted May 18, 2011 I had surgery on my "real birthday" April 27th... a great gift. I AK a chef (ironically) and because I am running around all day I was concerned about returning to work earlier than I thought would be necessary for healing. As luck has it by day 5 I felt great and forced myself to stay off for 8 work days. I returned to work with a glowing complexion and a renewed sense of energy. I am happy to have returned so that my shopping wouldn't get out of control. Viva la b and.
