problems

Recommended Posts

 It's been 7 months since I had surgery. I've lost 35 lbs. Lately I'm always sick. I had all the Fluid taken out and I still have a lot of restriction. Most of the time I feel a least a little sick to my stomach. I'm very careful of what I eat. I had the fluid taken out on 1/1/06. How long will it take for my stomach to get back to normaL? Anyone else having these problems.? I wake up at night getting sick with nothing in my stomach.

Have you been checked for slippage? How late are you eating before bed? Often, if you are too restricted, slipped or have pouch dilation, the food will not move on through the stoma and you can have this nighttime reflux. Please see your doctor and ask for a barium swallow to check the position of your band and the status of your pouch and amount of Fluid getting through. Nighttime reflux can cause aspiration pneumonia which is very hard to get over. Please take care of yourself and your band! Good luck!

I second what Leatha said... You need a barium swallow to see if the Fluid is going through, and possibly an endoscopy. You should be feeling some decrease in restriction by now if you had your entire fill taken out almost 3 weeks ago. Call your doctor and insist.

I vote it's time for an endoscopy...

You could be slipped, eroded, or something else, but you need to have a professional take some pictures and find out for sure.

I have GERD(acid refulx disease) and am NOT banded, but I go through similar symptoms, so please ask your doctor about it. I am on Protonix and Pepcid for it.

By the way what is aspiration pneumonia? I have been having bad GERD lately and also have had to use my inhaler for asthma much more often.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
