What's the deal with the different sized bands?

Recommended Posts

My doctor made it a point to tell my family and I that he was able to put in the small band and the big port....he said in a way that we should have been super happy and overjoyed... What Is the advantage of having the smaller band vs. The big one?

He did tell me that bigger guys like me usually have to get the bigger band but was just curious to the advantages and who has which one?

I wonder why he would prefer the big port. I would think the low profile port would be much desirable.

What size band did he place? I don't think they use the 4th bands anymore except in Mexico. I don't know what size band I have but I would think the surgeon would place a smaller band so you would reach restriction faster but I'm not sure.

From what i understand the band size is bases on your anatomy and the curvature of your stomach. it has nothing to do with how much weight you have to loose(i thought it would). hope that helps

The bands are done by cc's.

I have a small one which is 4cc. They don't come any smaller then that.

Ask your Dr. How many cc Band do you have? He can tell you..

At my clinic the women all have 10 CC bands and the men 12 CC bands.

Cheers,

Kristi

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
