Guest BLUE Posted January 19, 2006 Hello everyone, I was banded on January 9th 2006. I have already lost a total of 11 pounds in the 1st week. But as of today I feel no restriction. I was sick on 2 occasions yesturday, is it possible that I have moved the band or even made it come apart? I dont feel like eating now at all and have dropped to 1 meal a day. Would anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks BLUE
HeatherGurl 0 Posted January 19, 2006 Hi and welcome to LBT. You have no fill that equals no restriction. You won't feel restriction until you get your first fill! Good Luck!!!!
donali 57 Posted January 19, 2006 Hi Blue! Congrats on your banding! The most likely explanation is that the swelling from your surgery has gone down, and you're healing up like you should be. Be sure to follow your doc's prescribed eating plan (liquids only for x number weeks, mushies only for x number of weeks, etc.) and don't move on to solid food until your doc says it's allowed. You will be HUNGRY, and you most likely won't feel too differently from pre-band until you start getting fills. Don't worry about the weight - you may gain some back in this phase, that's very common. Just follow the rules, don't worry about the scale, and once you start getting fills you will really be on your way. As far as vomitting goes, generally after an episode of vomiting you should do liquids only for 24 hours to allow the stomach irritation to resolve. If you continue to experience pain, or are unable to tolerate liquids make sure to get back in contact with your doc. If you ever feel like things really aren't right, you must call your doc! But if you're not having any pain and can tolerate liquids you're probably a-ok. Take it slow, take it easy, be prepared for feeling like you're not banded for the next few weeks. It all takes time. Have fun on your journey!!
migbt 0 Posted January 19, 2006 Hey Blue... Welcome to bandland:) I will start with ... I am not an expert!!!! The one thing I have found on this site is EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND TAKE THE SUGGESTION, BUT DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU AND YOUR BAND! I was banded January 12 (O.M.G.... TODAY IS MY ONE WEEK ANNIVERSARY :biggrin1:) and still feel restriction. I can't gulp anything or eat anything beyond 'cream of.....". My Doc said restriction post op is 1) swelling from surgery and 2) how they put the band on. He told me fill 8 - 10 weeks and the girl after me would be 6 weeks. Time will tell! Good luck on your new journey!!!!
NJChick 3 Posted January 19, 2006 Blue, I was starving the day after my surgery too. Everyone is different. The main thing is to stick to what ever diet the doctor has you on. You really want to do this for healing purposes so be careful. Currently I don't have any fill and therefore 0 restriction, I can eat a horse, no lie. I can eat just like before banding and I don't have to chew all that well. Hopefully on Feb 3rd I'll get a fill. When will your doctor give you a fill ? 6 weeks out? 4my3girls 0 Posted January 19, 2006 I have been banded 2months and for the first few weeks I felt no restriction, But now when I eat I have to eat very slow, and very little to fill me up for hours, and have lost just as much weight in the last month as I did the first month. Everyone is different as far as the speed of weight loss but I think most are the same with not feeling restriction at the very beginning. My doctor said it would NOT be normal to feel restriction after being banded. Hope this helps..
Guest BLUE Posted January 19, 2006 Hey all again and a BIG THANK YOU to all your support and advice. I was quiet concerned and now my mind is at rest and I shall look forward to the 1st fill. One thing I must say is that I havent been put or told about any special diet except that for the 1st week I should have fluids ie clear soup etc and from the 2nd week to eat puree and food put through the blender. nessa 0 Posted January 20, 2006 I was banded on January 5th 2006 and for about the last 5 days I haven't had any restriction at all so I have had to really watch myself. I was very emotional the day I realized I didn't have any restriction, I assaulted my husband with a chicken breast but thats a story for a different day. PhotoNut 7 Posted January 20, 2006 I was also banded on the 9th and am just now noticing I can drink more and quicker. I used to only handle one half of a Slim Fast shake but today I drank the entire thing without even noticing. Danger Will Robinson! Time to slow down and pay more attention to whats sliding down my throat. Gawd, I wish it was Cream of.. ANYTHING! LOL ADDITION: My husband just said, 'Why cant you have cream of chicken or cream of mushroom Soup? ' Oh my god. I can! *walks calmly to the kitchen in search of that lovely red and white can* NOT!
NJChick 3 Posted January 21, 2006 Blue, your doc didn't give you eating guidelines? WHOAH !!! This is what my doc made me do after surgery. 2 weeks Clear Liquids (broth, tea, ice pops, juice, Water, coffee) 1 week on thicker liquids (cream Soups, Protein drinks, etc.) 1 week on mushies (mashed taters, and just about anything mushy) Then I graduated onto regular food. I had restriction then but its surely gone now Maybe you should call your doctor and say hey !! what am I suposed to be eating? Make sure your getting in your liquids. Hugs !!!!
