Hey Everyone,

My date is June 09, I start my pre-op diet on the 26th of May!! (day of, not night per MD lol) I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm able to have Protein shakes and non-starcy Veggies along with the Clear Liquids.< /p>

YAY! Another June 9th! I'll be thinking of you! I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow. I'll find out what time I will have surgery and when I start my liquid diet. they asked me to lose 20 lbs and I have done so. Since I am so overweight, I am anxious to see how long I'll be on it. I know someone not nearly as heavy as I but went to the same surgeon, she had NO pre-op liquid diet. JEALOUS!!! Not sure but will find out soon :-)

Luckily, I like my Protein but may not if my pre-op diet is a long time, lol.

CONGRATS!!!

I was supp to be until BCBS IL changed their policy from a 3 month dietary documentation to a 6 month. Now....I'm a little worried. When I started my Dietary appts for approval of Lap Band Surgery, I was told 3 months. After I finished 3 months, BCBS of IL said the policy changed and now I would need 3 additional months. I cried like a baby...I'm a teacher and I tried to plan just right, so surgery would take place during Summer.

Here's my question: My primary doctor prescribed Phentermine for 3 months last year, do you thing that could count? In a ddition, I have proof of ordering Low Carb Proteins and shakes during the time I was on Phentermine and I also purchased an Elliptical Machine. What do you think my chances of approval are?

Did you have to document your Diet for 3-6 months? It seems like things went fast, I see you did the nutritionist for only a month?

Hi, I wanted to join in. I'm having surgery on June 23. Can't wait (plus it will be nice to get some time off of work). I'm currently 280 pounds - and hope to get down to 160 (or less). Definitely have some head issues as to not being able to eat certain foods again - but I'm sure I'll get over them. For now, I'm still eating whatever I want - but need to go on liquids on June 13. Haven't found a Protein Shake I like yet - and wonder if anyone has a recommendations? I think a huge obstacle for me is the fact that I work third shift. I'm up for so many hours each day - having 3 small meals will be tough. Working with the nutritionist on just when to plan my meals. Oh, I bought a jigger with the hopes it will help me drink only one ounce of Water at a time ... so many things to learn ... Looking forward to sharing the journey!

SOOOOOO I was supposed to start my 26 day preopreative diet yesterday.. Optifast.. HOWEVER... when I weighed in at the doctors, my BMI was 41.6, I have about 10 lbs to play with and my particular insurance can deny payment below 40.... SO my preop diet will be 4 days of Optifast before surgery, that is it! SCORE, I am so excited. Don't get me wrong I was looking forward to the weight loss and starting yesterday but it is going to save me almost 500.00!!! I am not going to complain about that :)

So excited for everyone... here we go! I am 25 days away from my new life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
