Anyone eat real food 5 days post op ? I literally cannot drink the shakes anymore and am starting to entertain the thoughts of eating real food . Meaning, eggs, quiche, ect... soft food that can be easily turned into mushies by chewing more.

anyone try this ?

Chuck

NO. Please contact your doctor before modifying your diet. Your stomach is trying to heal from the stiches that are holding the band in place. I drank stock intead of broth and added mrs dash non salt flavored seasoning.

Try very hard not to advance your diet without approval from your bariatric support team (doctor, nurses, etc.). The reason for the extended time back to regular food is to allow the band to "seat" well in place. Returning to regular food sooner than suggested causes more peristalsis (wave like movements) of the stomach and can possibly lead to loosening or breaking of stitches and increasing the possibility of band slippage further down the line.

If you can't tolerate the idea of any more Protein shakes, why not use some canned Soups? That's what I lived on instead of shakes. Just dilute them to what tastes good (I only use about 1/2 can of Water or broth) and then put in the blender and run till very smooth. During the liquid phase I was allowed anything that would go through a straw.. but not to use a straw. :) But please check with your doctor before advancing on your own. I know it's rough.. but you can do it!!!

Every Dr's rules are different, as I said, I only had to be on liquids for 3 days before I could start mushies but the others make very valid points about the healing process. You should follow your dr.'s orders or give them a call and let them know what is going on. Sometimes they will allow you to add some soft foods.

Chuck...I feel your pain. Day 6 post op and miserable. The shakes started making me gag and dry heave so I had to stop. I have had some Soup (andersons split pea in a can which is already blended) and a bit of Peanut Butter. Tomorrow I am getting some other "clear" none shake Protein Drinks to try. I'll let you know how they taste. I also did get some yogurt and cottage cheese which I have not had yet. I am really trying to follow my nutritionists directions, but not getting any Protein isnt going to help me either. I wish you much luck!

i know you're sick of the Protein Shakes, but i've found Svelt brand (sold at whole foods) to be really good. it basically tastes like chocolate soy milk.... which is awesome. it's a bit higher in calories, but that doesnt really matter as you're barely getting any calories in, anyway. it sucks, i know... i'm on my final 2 days of my 2week post-op liquids and tonight i cheated and had some soft cheese.. i wouldnt recommend it only 5 days in. your tummy is swollen and hurty, needs time to recoup. but time will pass.. it always does !

Hang in there you guys!! I remember not being able to take another Protein Powder shake, but I have found a better shake! it's PREMIER NUTRITION and you can get them at costco. it's premade in a handy little container and you can sip on it. it's actually really good.. just giving you some tips :) and Soups are good. your body is healing so let it heal and remember that this is temporary! :) good luck

I know how you feel I was 2 weeks of clear liquid, I had to drink Isopure, for to afford it I had to get a case of the same flavor, the grape one. I hated it. Imagine two weeks of something you hate. I did it because I knew that I had to get to the point where I wasn't living to eat but eating to live. I saw it as medicine. sugar free Jello and Popsicles helped a lot. At the end of the two weeks I was ready for mushies and even dreamed about them. I lost about 20 lbs in those two weeks too. Look at it as something you have to do for awhile. I literally at the end would hold my nose and try not toilet the Isopure hit my tongue. I have since tried other flavors and liked those, like punch flavor.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
