GETTING MY LAP BAND ON MAY 16th -

This upcoming Monday is the big day for me!! My insurance will not pay so it is being done as a self pay. So blessed to be able to do this, but I am also anxious about the true results as it is such a big financial and emotional investment.

I have read so much information, become educated, gone through all the discussions with my surgeon, dietitian, etc. What should I expect in terms of realistic weight loss in the first 8-12 weeks? And, did any of you exercise to enhance the weight loss potential?

I look forward to all the feedback!

The first month should really be about healing and not about losing weight. you will have plenty of time for weight loss to come afterwards. i think you will set yourself up for failure if you expect to lose tons of weight in the first 4-5 weeks. you *might* lose weight because you will be on a liquid diet, but once you start adding solid foods back into the mix, you might see a slight gain. don't be discouraged by this. just use the early time to heal and then once you are cleared to begin exercise, then begin. don't jump the gun because you might do some damage. follow whatever your surgeon suggests and be patient. eventually you should be losing 1-2 pounds per week with some plateaus thrown in as your body adjusts.

it's not a miracle though, it will require work....just don't get discouraged if at the beginning your weight loss is wonky. your body has to adjust to a foreign object being placed inside of it, then your stomach has to heal from the surgery.

Thank you for your great response. I see your virtual scale - is that 28 pounds since May 4th of your surgery?

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
