Something to get me back on track...

Recommended Posts

This isn't a question, I just wanted to share my thoughts for today.

So I admit, I have been doing REALLY terrible following a good diet for the last week and a half. Although I have gone to the gym, and my scale says that I even lost two pounds, I know that what I have been eating will come back at some point, it always does. So today, I saw a family member whom I usually only see once in a blue moon. She is a nurse and I told her excitedly that I had gotten the Lap-band. She asked me why I chose the lap band because she knows of several people who have had it done and it never worked for them. They have only lost a few pounds and that's it in years. I just have to say, that made me think about how terrible I have been eating and I will say that it put it right into perspective for me, if i keep eating this way, it will never work. I need to get back on track. I will not be one of "those" people!

Hang in there...we CAN do it. I am feeling like a total failure at the moment..but telling myself I didn't go through all this to not have it work...and I know that the biggest part of this working is ME with the help of my band. I need the right positive mental attitude coz I really don't want to fail at weight loss...yet again. I have not seen the good weight loss some of you have at 3 weeks out like me..but I am trying to stay positive and let this be a life changing experience. Some days its easier than others. You can message me anytime...I think you are doing awesome.

Wanting to get back on track is the first step. You don't mention how your hunger is. I wonder if you need a fill. That's great your excersising. Keep that up for sure! I have found going on liquids ie. Protein Shakes for a couple days helps get me back on track. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing! In Feb and March I gained 8 pounds because I wasn't be honest with myself. I had those same thoughts your are having in April and since lost 13 pounds once I realized that it was really up to me to track my calories and stop eating sweets too much. I still have some but in moderation and I add them in my calorie tracker for the day instead of leaving them out.

I never want to be one of "those people" either. I know of one person who got the lap band who hasn't lost any weight in years because he guzzles beer and hard liquor, eats large portions of junk, and throws up constantly because he's too tight (but of course denied it when I pointed out that nightly vomiting is not normal). He also tried to rain on my parade by telling me I'd have the same problems. Everything has been fine for me so far! (knock on wood)

You get out of the band what you put into it. "Those people" don't realize that. Keep up the good work and you'll never be one of them!

I've heard people say that they did everything right and never lost weight, but I think that's definitely the minority. Just like everything else in life, the harder we work at this, the better the rewards will be!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
