dita 0 Posted May 12, 2011 Hi everyone, I am a 30 year old woman. My BMI is 49.9 right now and have started the process to having the band put in. I don't know which brand they will be using, but I assume the forum will allow any band because we all have similar outcomes? I don't know what to say at this point. I have been extremely overweight since I was 19 and I don't like how uncomfortable it makes me. I have dangerously high cholesterol and just am always tired from being so big. I signed up for the surgery when I heard it reduces the chance of getting diabetes later in life. I was diabetic while pregnant and did not enjoy insulin shots 4 times a day and the problems I was having with my vision. At this point I am doing the diet my insurance requires for 6 months prior to surgery...the diet is new and different, but they still allow me to have many of the foods I enjoy. I have learned to live without milk, it was a big issue for me at first, but now I don't even miss it. I had issues with the Calcium pills they were having me take. Constipation was a huge concern, so they have me on powdered calcium citrate which I have no side affects from at this point. I also had to increase the amount of Fiber in my diet. I didn't realize how much we actually need. This part is my challenge of the month but I am learning about whole grains and wheat noodles and enjoying the transition. Lunches were a concern as well. At work I am very busy and usually skipped lunches. But my dietitian recommended some high fiber bars for a snack and they are easy to eat on the go. I should be ready for the band in August or September. Hopefully I make some friends on here by then, my therapist says I need more support and I'm not much for talking in front of groups. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Nice meeting everyone!
Phranp 46 Posted May 12, 2011 Welcome to LBT! There's a lot of good info (and some not so good too) on this forum. You can ask questions about absolutely anything. Again, welcome. ~fran
