Protein Bar suggestions

Recommended Posts

My doctor has suggested I eat a Protein bar if I start to feel real hungry during my 10day pre diet, which I start on May 18th. Can anyone suggest which are the best? Also, I'm losing my excitement I guess because its been such a long waiting game. Has anyone else gone through that?

Thanks everyone!

I went through the presurgery jitters. I was banded on April 19th. I get my first fill next Thursday. The first week was a little uncomfortable. Heck, I was pulling weeds in the flower beds 4 days after my surgery. I am just now starting to have an appetitie but I am able to control it. The worst part for me not being able to sleep on my port side as I am a side sleeper. But, I can do it now! Good luck.

There are a number of them different people like. My preference is for the Premier brand. They sell them at costco, but I'm sure you can get them elsewhere, too. http://www.premiernutrition.com/ I like them because of their fresh taste, and how satisfying they are. They come in three different types, are quite filling, and most important - they don't taste like cardboard. :) I really like their ready-to-drink Protein shakes, too.

The bars average about 270 calories each, but contain 30g of Protein. I use them as Meal Replacements when I'm in the car, stuck at my desk at work, or when I think I need a snack. (I eat about a third of one at a time, and follow bandster eating/chewing rules.) It works well for me, and I find I don't have to worry about what I'm going to eat, if other foods aren't readily available at mealtime.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Special "K" protien bars are the only ones I've ever tried. They're not bad, only 180 calories and 10g of protien.

I LOVE the Zone Perfect Cinnamon Roll bar.

It could be better with protein-- it only has 13g. But man, it tastes awesome. I eat one for Breakfast almost every day.

I like ThinkThin bars. They are sugar and gluten free but yummy! They come in a regular size and a 100 calorie size. Toffee Nut Crunch and Mudslide are my favorite chocolatey ones but I also love the Tangerine Dream which tastes like a 50/50 Popsicle.

Hey there,

Great to hear someone else used Dr. Brebia, he seems like a great doctor. I'm getting really excited to have my surgery on the 27th. We'll have to keep up with each other! Take care!

Dr. Brebbia has a great reputation. Elsa is a life saver. BC/BS requires 6 visits to the nutritionist. Passed the Pulmonary Dr. He wants to do a sleep test any way just to see if he can add something else to list of problems. So I have 4 more classes. Hope to get banded before Nov. We're not able to take time off Nov or Dec. Retail ya know! It was suggested to use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein drinks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
