It's 3.20am local time and I'm sat up, with horrid pain in my chest. I ate ages ago and everything went down fine. Went to bed then woke up with this horrid pain. I tried gently sipping hot Water but that came up as slime a few minutes later. I tried again and this time I retched and retched - just bringing up more slime but no food. If there's something stuck why doesn't it come up? I daren't swallow anything now. Feeling miserable and feeling sick and nauseous. Any ideas? I've had a band for 2.5 years and not experienced anything like this before.

If I were you, I would either call the dr.that did your surgery right now (have him paged), or call the emergency room at a local hospital, and tell them your situation. I'm scheduled to have my band in a week, so I haven't had any experiences yet, but I really feel that you should call a dr. It must be scary, especially if you're alone. I'm here with you in thought! I will say a prayer for you. Let me know how you do.

Something is definitely stuck. If it doesn't get any better by morning you should probably go get a little fill removed. If it is better I would still take it upon myself to go on liquids for a couple days until the swelling goes down.

Thanks for your suggestions. I got back to sleep eventually though still in pain. When I awoke the chest pain had gone though I still feel weak and feeble after all that retching. I'm going to take your advice and stick to fluids for a couple of days and let any inflammation settle.

review what you ate and what time it was eaten before you went to bed. just to see if there is a correlation. also, did you recently receive a fill? if the pain continues. give your doc a call. better to be safe and sure than not.

That sounds a lot more like gall bladder pain than gas or something being stuck.

Gall bladder pain usually starts like a tightness, then gets worse. You may start sweating, feeling like you need to throw up, feel like you're having a heart attack. It will probably be one of the worst pains you'll ever feel. No position will relieve the pain. You may have issues breathing.

Then anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 hours later it will just stop. And you'll feel fine but exhausted.

This is something to pay attention to.

If it happens again make a note of what you were eating that day. High fat foods, dairy, chocolate, caffeine, they all trigger attacks. And it could be hours later when the attack comes up.

If it happens again make an appointment with your doctor and ask for an ultrasound of your gallbladder or HIDA test. It's best to find out for sure and get it dealt with early if it is a gall bladder issue.
