Normal to get stuck &/or throw up everyday?

Recommended Posts

I was banded the end of October 2010. I have lost 21 pounds...approximately one pound a week. I feel like I'm not getting the full effect of the band when I compare my weight loss to others. I know everyone is different, but I have had so many issues. The main one that concerns me at this time is the problem of getting "stuck" every day. I rarely feel full for more than 2 hours at a time. I try to chew and eat the proper amount of Protein. I have a burning sensation in my throat from the reflux and "stuck" feeling. I am trying to learn from my mistakes. I am scared the frequent "throwing up" is going to hurt my stomach where it is banded. I'm so scared this is going to ulcerate and something be injured inside...anyone else out there having these types of problems or concerns?

Are you chewing your food really good and taking at least 30 mins to eat a small meal? Are you avoiding foods that get you stuck... like white bread, white rice, white Pasta? Are you drinking while eating? I use to get stuck everyday too, but i have got the hang of the band and how it works. Throwing up is no good, and isnt healthy for you either. Have you spoke with your dr? Perhaps youre too tight... but I dont understand how if you dont stay very full. 21 lbs is a great start! It is 21 lbs that is gone and never coming back. Dont compare yourself to others bc that will only hinder you. I have a bandbuddy, we both got the surgery on the same day. I met her off this site. She has lost 90 lbs and ive only lost 60. The band works diff for diff folks, and you will find your nitch. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

No it's not normal nor is it healthy for you or your band. You're risking slipping your band. You need to:

1. Chew more and eat slower/less at one time.

2. Get a small unfill if you're too tight.

3. Talk to your surgeon.

4. Drink something hot before you eat.

5. Combination of above.

I am seven months banded. After my last fill in Feb. that was happening to me. Every other meal I was getting stuck. It just stopped, now I can eat normally. I think I was tight for the first few months, so I had to be very careful. I know I am very tight in the mornings, sometimes I drink hot tea, before I eat or eat oatmeal. I probably should of went to the Dr. and got an unfill, but I didn't. My next appointment to discuss fills is in a couple of weeks. I thought I didn't need one, but I feel as if I am eating more and I am not getting stuck as much. So I guess it is a process we go through and we have really listen to our bodies. I see many people on this site talk about fincky bands. I guess I have one also. Also my weight has been plateaued for the last month, I have lost 72 lbs. since Sept.

If you have to , go back to the basics for a few days. Just liquids, then mushies. Then chew your food to mush, and take your time eating.

If you feel it getting hung up, don't continue to eat. Instead take a glass of warm Water, and slowly drink it down until you are clear.

This is better then throwing up, and it works.

I am 11 months banded, 90 lbs down, 10.6 cc. When I am filled too tight I throw up every meal until I get an unfill. I still throw up about twice a week. If I eat without drinking something hot first, I often I have problems. chicken tends to be a problem no matter how chewed up it is for me. Eating when I am upset is a problem for me, even if I think I am over whatever I was ticked about, guess what my throat isn't relaxed enough to eat yet. If I eat earlier than noon my band is too tight to eat. Field greens as opposed to iceburg lettuce make me throw up. If you are sure you are eating slow and small enough bites, try to include hot tea or coffee or even hot Soup BEFORE you eat and make sure you are relaxed.

I haven't been banded long enough to help you in this area but I just want to suggest taking acid reflux meds everyday for the acid burning feelin. I take prilosec otc evryday. I dont stop at 14 day per docs orders. After getting my band my doc said it was very important to continue doing that. Good luck with everything, I really hope you get things worked out.

Hello,

From my personal experience you are too tight. I was vomiting daily, called my NP and she had me come right in. I needed 2 separate deflates for a toatl deflate of 3cc. By fluoroscopy she could see my band was too tight. She said the vomiting causes swelling and that banded folks swell inward since the band prevents swelling out. My whole problem was probably initiated to severe seasonal allergies with post nasal drip "plugging" me up. Luckily my band didn't slip and my esophagus didn't dialate. The vomiting and reflux have completely stopped and I am scheduled for a fill on June 3rd.

I suggest you call and go in ASAP for a deflate so you can heal.

Good luck to you! Joan

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
