ok, so here it is two days after my surgery and I have absolutely NO appetite and having to chew the Vitamins and get the rx mes down is a huge chore for me. Once I am able to get all of this in I am feeling so nausous that I can't even eat the whole Protein shake. Did you guys go through this too ? my stomach constantly hurts and i am keep chalking it up to it being so soon after the surgery. I am sure you guys have heard this story many many times but i guess it just takes time for the body to heal........

Please tell me I am not crazy and that this is normal...

good luck to everyone ! ;)

Chuck

that sounds about right to me. my surgery was may 4th and i had zero interest in anything for the first 2 or 3 days. it was difficult to get my Vitamins and i only got about 28oz of fluids those first couple of days (instead of 64)

it really helped me to write down what fluids i was taking in every day and the next day, i tried to beat it. today, a week later, i am able to finally drink semi-normally and i start mushies tomorrow. it will get a little bit easier every day.

try writing it down and do your best. tomorrow will be an easier day.

I got my surgery on the 10th. The only thing that is going down smoothly with no issue is Water and juice. When I drink Protein Shakes or take my meds it takes a really long time to get thru it. I usually have to get up half way thru swallowing them and walk to make myself burp so I can keep going. It should get better for you as well. It's probably still very swollen around the band, making it difficult for things that are a little bit thicker to pass through. Make sure you're chewing your Vitamins really well. That seems to be easing them down for me.

For me, I was told no Protein shakes for the first 3 days. Just Clear liquids like broth etc. I guess doctor instructions vary. I did experience the same thing, but it got better each day. I was also instructed not to force finishing a shake. Put it in the refrigerator and finish it later.

Emster, I was wondering how you are doing. When I got released from the hospital from barb, she said, now we are off to see you twin. I said, "what?" and she said, oh you have a surgery twin here, same day as you right after you and she's being released to, so I figured it was you. I have been sleeping ALOT, and totally not getting in enough liquids, but I am not in much pain at all, and have been able to operate everything I've tried. I am not sure that's a good thing. My first appt is on the 19 and then I should graduate to mystics.

OK, So I too had my surgery on Monday and am extremely suprised that I really have no pains from the surgery... However I am extremely bloated (just found out that is from the gas they put in our body) and swolen around my mid section, swolen to the point of being firm... My biggest problem is that I really dont understand what i am feeling... the first couple of days I was hard pressed to get anything down, I was full with 2 oz of Jello and couldnt drink a 1 shake in a day...

Now, Thursday and I find that I cant drink more than two shakes still but I am hungry and craving food... I have tried Ice Cream, Greek Yogurt and Apple Sauce (not sure that I was supposed to do that but I needed to get something in me outside of water)

I would love to have someone to talk with that is at the same stage as me and can help me talk through the wierd feelings I have in my body... I think the worst thing about this procedure is that I truly dont understand whats going on and what I am felling...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
