Hi Everyone!

I'm scheduled to be banded May 16th and I'm going to be a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding on May 29th. Well, I just went to my cousin's wedding this past weekend, while on the pre-op diet, and I didn't have anything to drink. Everyone was up dancing and having a good time and drinking and I was wishing I could join the party. I kept thinking the whole time-- I am SO drinking at my brother's wedding. I know I'll only be 13 days post-op, but do you think it will be unsafe to have one or two glasses of wine or non-fizzy mixed drinks? I know I should really ask my doc, but I'm afraid he'll say no, LOL. Anyway, I would love to hear from people about how long you waited or what your surgeons said.

It's not that I NEED alcohol to have a good time or anything, but I think I would enjoy myself a little more if I could have one or two. Thanks!

Mary

Well, the 2 concerns with alcohol are fizz and calories. So if you avoid beer or drinks mixed with soda you should be fine as long as you don't mind the "usless" calories in wine or other non carbonated beverages. I think a brothers wedding would be a good reason do take in a few extra calories!!!:D . Have fun!

Oh... and be careful, you don't want to drink so much you get sick and throw up... that could be very bad.

You should be fine. Just remember that you will have little food in your stomach and the booze will hit you harder than it ever has before.

i had to go to a special event shortly after surgery too and had a vodka and cranberry juice (about 2 or 3 weeks after surgery) and i seriously thought i was going to pass out!! ha! i got so drunk it was ridiculous. so keep in mind that you've been on liquids and not eating much and it'll hit you really hard! my dr told me it was ok to have a drink but to be sure to drink a lot of Water too so i didn't get dehydrated. but you should probably ask your dr to make sure.

I'm not much of a drinker, I don't think I had a drink until about 2 months after my surgery (I had a 1/2 glass of wine on christmas eve). I had a small skinny girl margarita (when I say small I mean maybe a 4 oz serving) and I felt a little tipsy. If you're planning on having anything to drink, I would definitely discuss it with your doctor, but don't be surprised if after 1 drink you feel completely drunk

Thank you all for the responses. It makes me glad to know that I should be able to have at least a little. I'll probably start with just one and give it a little while to work and see how I feel. I definitely won't drink so much that I'll throw up, because that is the last thing I want to do while I'm still healing. My sister will be there with me too, so I can ask her to keep an eye on me, lol. It was just no fun at all at the last wedding watching everyone drinking and dancing and me being stone-cold sober, lol.

And I know they're just empty calories which is why I'm definitely not going to make it a habit, but I think I can make an exception for the wedding. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
