I said to myself the other day, I want to go rollerblading again. Now, I have not done this is probably 10+ years. So today it was nice out, not to hot, not to cold. So I said what the hell. I put on my rollerblades, stood up, a bit shaky. And went out, went around the parking lot a bunch of times, just to get back into it. Then decided to go down the street. And I kept going, before I knew it I was about 3 miles away from my apartment! At this point my ankles were starting to hurt a bit, so I turned around. So in total I went 6 miles!! I am quite happy with that. When I got home my ankles were killing me, but after having them off for a few minutes they felt fine again. If I continue doing this, I may buy a new pair, maybe they make them a bit more comfortable now, after all I've had this pair for like 15 years or so.

But I think today was a good day!

Woo Hoo!!!!! That is fantastic! You are an inspiration!

Yesterday I had this overwhelming desire to participate in the Famous "Bay to Breakers" walk/run in San Francisco. They dress up in funny costumes and it is family friendly. I have a friend that is interested in exercising with me. I thought this might be right up our alley. I found the website for it. It turns out it is this Saturday. It is 15k, about 7.5 miles. OK, so we start training now for next year.

I could never understand why people would do these walk/run a thons. I'd prefer to just donate my $25 and be done. Now, I get it. The energy of being around everyone else and the excitement of doing something for the greater good is so much more than just walking/running.

I love you you got a whim to do something and you did it immediately instead of talking yourself out of it. Great job!

Thanks. Definitely go for it! You can start training now. You'll have a year to get ready! I've never done a 5 k or anything, but when I was younger my family and I did a few bike rides for different causes. I've never been one for walking, and running well I don't like when things jiggle and bounce...lol. But I would have to agree it is probably more fun in a group. So go for it! My next thing I want to accomplish is getting back on a horse. I used to love horseback riding, but then got so big, I just felt like I was going to hurt the horse. I think I'm at the point now that guys weigh as much as me (well some) so I think I wouldn't feel like I was going to hurt it anymore. Will definitely be going in the next couple months

i got back on a horse! my biggest ride was last weekend for our Relay for Life Team at church. i had riding some to get ready but my husband and i rode about 8 miles and i was so sore i could barely walk for 4 days. But the day was beautiful and i enjoyed myself so much. But before i had quit riding i have not been on a horse for about 4 years because of my weight. Feels good. looking forward to more "new" activities again! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
