Freddy Henin 1 Posted May 11, 2011 My girlfriend yesterday mentioned to me that she's worried that I'm gonna change personality wise...my surgery's in a week, I'm very excited but I have thought of that before...I'm a very social guy, outgoing and love to communicate with people...DOES personality change after you lose weight? jingleboob 5 Posted May 11, 2011 I don't believe my personality has changed, but how people see me (and not just physically) has. food is no longer my main focus... I'm not excited to go out to eat, go out for ice cream, go to the chineese buffet, meet for coffee and a treat etc. MOST of my social interactions revolved around food, and getting friends and family to understand that I have to change that has been difficult. It's not that I can't go out, but it's not fun anymore when people spend the whole meal asking "aren't you going to eat anything else? surely you can't be full on just that, here have some of this...". I don't need or want other people to make a big deal about my change in eating, the shocked attention to it is not productive for me so I do avoid these situations when I can. Some people take that as a personality change... some people think I'm flaunting it in their faces and trying to make them feel guilty for eating. It's not my problem, I know, it's theirs. But it's easier to avoid when I can at this point.
Jess55 97 Posted May 11, 2011 I believe mine has changed a little, but for the better. I was very depressed pre surgery. Just with life in general. Post surgery I am becoming a bit more outgoing (slowly).
papoose 48 Posted May 11, 2011 I don't think my personality has changed. But I was told by my good friend at work, that someone said I was COCKY since I lost 70 lbs. I was so livid. My friend did tell the person that she would be COCKY also if she lost all that weight and she worked very hard to lose it. Everyone is noticing that I lost weight and they come up to me and ask me about it. If I am sitting, they tell me to stand up and I do and then I do a little dance for them. We laugh and they tell me they are so happy for me. If you don't mention anything about my weight I don't say anything also. I just said screw that person. I am happy, I feel good, I can now wear cute dresses. So leave me alone. LOL
Freddy Henin 1 Posted May 11, 2011 ok, this is all good to hear...I think my biggest thing I'm looking forward to is being a bit more secure...I mean lugging around 380 pounds is a good reason to be a bit insecure with myself...I'm not saying I'm depressed...but it does bother me when we go out to eat and we sit at a table not a booth....can't fit on rollercoasters and such...so those are the things i'm looking forward to for sure
papoose 48 Posted May 11, 2011 Don't worry once the weight starts falling off you will definitely start feeling good about yourself. Good luck.

(based on my own experiences so far....) Not to worry, your outlook will change and you'll become more positive about things. You'll still be you - It's all good! sassy k's mommy 1 Posted May 11, 2011 You are going to changed but its going to be okay.. You are going to be come a more confident person.. You aren't gonna want to hide out in the crowd.. you are going to want people to take noticed there isn't anything wrong with it.. i really think that those people who say things like that are the ones that are going to concern about losing you as a friend.. I really think that some people tend to have issues with the person that had surgery.. because they are confident and feel better about themselves.. If they are your true friend then they will be there.. you are going to have good and bad days.. I have had more bad days lately because I am soo freaking stressed out because of my maritial problems..
More2Love 5 Posted May 19, 2011 I hope I change! Right now I'm very unsocial and don't enjoy going out with friends. It's mostly a mental thing. I don't want to go to clubs because dressing cute isn't exactly my thing. Because a cute dress doesn't look as nice on me as it does on one of my other skinny friends. Honestly - one of my main goals...I want to be able to fit into a pair of American Eagle jeans. That's been my goal since middle school Anyway, I'm hoping that I'll just become a more social me! I don't want that little voice telling me that I'm not worthy to do things. I want to go on a date and not worry about not fitting in a booth. I want to go to the movies and not worry about not fitting into the seats. I want to go into any clothing store and buy things. I want to just be happy!
