Hello all, I am 4 days post op and I have had a horrible experience tonight! I dealt with a bit of gas pain the first few days after surgery but tonight, this pain felt like an abdominal muscle cramp, right under my left breast. I thought at first that it was b/c I had woke up twisted last night (the cat had crawled right next to my back and I didn't want to disturb him), but I really didn't have this pain during the day today. Starting this evening, this muscle cramp was SOOOO bad. It got so that I couldn't even get in a good position in bed or even take a deep breath. The slightest movement would make it tense up again. Well, I finally started associating it with this "hunger pang" type feeling and thought "Maybe this is a gas pain?" So I have taken a couple of gas X piills and it seems to be relieving the pain some. I am sitting in the recliner, after midnight, typing, but I am feeling some relief. Does this sound like the horrible gas pains that I've heard people talk about? What would cause it now versus the first couple of days post op? Can anyone provide any insight? Also, how do you guys get your ticker to show up on your posts? I know that is probably a stupid question, but I am computer dumb right now and I just can't figure it out!

It is. Try moving around and using a heating pad. It goes away in time.

Hello!

So I just wanted to tell you that I was in SOOOOO much pain after surgery for at least 5 or 6 days. Like, I cried it hurt so bad. And I once broke my elbow and didn't know it was broken and continued wrestling and lifting weights for 5 weeks, so I have an extremely high tolerance for pain.

It is def gas related pain. I feel like it took a really long time for all that gas to pass. You have to breathe through it. Deep breaths. And walk around as much as you can. That is incredibly helpful. A potassium supplement may help.....and a heating pad.

Hang in there, it does get better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
