Hi to All of the Experienced Bansters!

I am scheduled to have surgery on May 18th (and I am uber excited)! However, I am going through my separation/mourning with my beloved favorite meals! Because of this I have not been sticking to my pre-op diet food (or lack thereof). Will this hurt me? Did anyone else not follow the diet to the T? I wonder if I will have to push my surgery back date because of this. I need some advice from those that gone through what I'm going through.

I'm currently trying to give myself a jumpstart by taking HCG injections, but I haven't officially "stuck" to this either.

Thanks in advance for the input

you are still plenty of days away...just stop cheating now and start doing the diet the way you are supposed to. my doctor required that my liver shrink a certain percentage. not sure if yours does or not, but if he would have seen that my liver hadn't shrunk enough, he wouldn't have done the surgery. if you start now, you should be able to still have the results he is looking for, but you need to stop making excuses and just stick to the diet. believe me when the post op diet gets here, you will be glad you stuck to it because you can't cheat on it unless you want to do some damage.

don't worry about yesterday, just focus on now and going forward. you will be fine.

My surgeon is kinda strict. My 2 week pre-op diet is liquids only! ugh!! so far i'm on day 2 and i havent killed anyone yet! suprizingly. My surgeon has a 0 pound restriction, meaning if you gain weight from your pre-op testing to the day of surgery he can refuse to do the surgery. I asked the nurse how strict he was about that and she said that's really if you gain 10+pounds, not sure how you could do that on a 2 week liquid diet, but i guess if you did the fool and ate everything in site it's possible! LOL! Are you allowed to have food or just liquids. I'm sure cheating once or twice wouldnt be a problem, but i just wouldnt make a habit of it. I told myself this is my test before the band to see how serious i was(my own personal challenge.) I wish you the best!

My surgery is scheduled for May 25th. I am on a two week liquid diet too. My doctor's diet isn't as strict. I can have steamed veg. as long as there isn't any salt or butter on them. I can have oatmeal (without sugar or butter), and campbells healthy choice Soup. I can also have sugar free popsicles, yogurt, and fruit.< /p>

The great news for me is that although I did cheat a lil I've lost 19 pounds since the 1st! I'm gonna try to stay as diligent as possible, thanks for the support. My requirement is 2 shakes and one meal per day (low fat, no starchy carbs).

I started my pre-op diet today (surgery on the 18th) 5 servings of Opti-fast a day for 6 days. I've had 1 shake so far and well let's just say my stomach wants more. I hope I can stick to this for the whole week. I really want to jump start the weight loss and get used to just a little bit of food before getting the band.

Congrats! I am very jealous. Today is day 8 out of 14 on the liquids only preop diet. The last time I ate food seems like forever ago. I don't know if I have lost anymore weight, because I don't own a scale. Plus, I got this long preachy lecture at me preop appointment about not looking a pounds anymore. They want to focus my goals on reducing my Fat % instead. UGH! Does anybody else have this requirement?

without telling anyone that they need to dwell on what a scale says, i think it would benefit you during the liquid phase especially, to invest in a scale. during the liquid diet, weigh at the same time every day to see the changes, it will keep you motivated. i would say after the surgery/liquid phase, etc, then change to weighing every week or every 2 weeks,,,,but it definitely helped me psychologically to get through the endless liquids if i saw some sort of movement on the scale. i would say even if your doctor is looking for something else, your doctor isn't the one suffering on the liquid diet, you are, and you should do something to motivate yourself to get whatever results he wants.

i really saw a difference in my attitude toward the liquid diet once i got a scale. on saturday, i'll change to weighing once a week, but for now, i weigh first thing in the morning and then again before bed. (i usually gain 3-5 pounds by the end of the day, but it's gone the next day)

it has been fun to watch things going down, down and down.

like i said, once i start eating real foods again, i won't dwell on the scale, but it has been very motivating for this past 3 weeks. plus, it's nice to see that it's close to the scale at the doctors's office. there is 1 pound difference. my scale weighs me heavier than the doctor's scale.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
